Always a Cowboy (The Carsons of Mustang Creek, 2)

"Linda Lael Miller creates vibrant characters and stories I defy you to forget." -#1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber

He's the middle of the three Carson brothers and as stubborn as they come. But when this infuriating-and irresistible-woman appears on his doorstep, it's clear he's met his match…

Drake Carson is the quintessential cowboy. In charge of the family ranch, he knows the realities of this life, its pleasures and heartbreaks. Lately, managing the wild stallions on his property is wearing him down. When an interfering so-called expert arrives and starts offering her opinion, Drake is wary, but he can't deny the longing-and the challenge-she stirs in him.

Luce Hale is researching how wild horses interact with ranch animals-and with ranchers. The Carson matriarch invites her to stay with the family, which guarantees frequent encounters with Drake, her ruggedly handsome and decidedly unwelcoming son. Luce and Drake are at odds from the very beginning, especially when it comes to the rogue stallion who's stealing the ranch mares. But when Drake believes Luce is in danger, that changes everything-for both of them.

Luce Hale is a graduate student looking to finish her thesis on Drake Carson's ranch in Mustang Creek. Drake does not have the time or inclination to watch out over this woman, but when he stumbles upon this feisty female he has no choice to sit up and take notice. I loved revisiting the wonderful characters of Mustang Creek. Drake was the quintessential cowboy and the relationship was fun and romantic. The story was well paced and pulled you right into their world with its rich detailed setting. It was nice romantic read.

More like 4.5 stars. I liked this book as I have liked most of LLM's books. She makes her characters come to life, the books are well written and enjoyable -- this book is no exception. This book is loosely linked to the Brides of Bliss County series and it helps to have read those books when some of the characters make appearances. The only reason this is not five stars is because the stallion had figured so prominently during the course of the book, the way he was finally handled seemed anticlimactic. None the less, I really enjoyed this book.

I love the Carson's of Mustang Creek... You'll fall in love with them, too. Here you'll find a picture of ranch life in the beautiful mountains of Wyoming, with the Grand Tetons rising in the background. A sophisticated, educated family where the men have been taught the men to be polite, respectful from the time they were young lads. This isn't your typical western... You'll fall in love with the characters, learn about the temperament of wild life, even big cats, and the havoc they can wreak, yet see those same animals protected by an ecological balance. If you haven't read this author before, you'll read her again and again after being introduced to her brand of writing.

This was a feel good story from beginning to end. Loved the characters, how true to actual country, farming and ranching families they are. I love a book that lets me step away from reality for awhile.
