Belladonna (Belladonna, 1)

Now available in paperback, New York Times bestselling author Adalyn Grace brings to life a highly romantic, Gothic-infused world of wealth, desire, and betrayal.

Orphaned as a baby, nineteen-year-old Signa has been raised by a string of guardians, each more interested in her wealth than her well-being-and each has met an untimely end. Her remaining relatives are the elusive Hawthornes, an eccentric family living at Thorn Grove, an estate both glittering and gloomy. Its patriarch mourns his late wife through wild parties, while his son grapples for control of the family's waning reputation and his daughter suffers from a mysterious illness. But when their mother's restless spirit appears claiming she was poisoned, Signa realizes that the family she depends on could be in grave danger and enlists the help of a surly stable boy to hunt down the killer.

However, Signa's best chance of uncovering the murderer is an alliance with Death himself, a fascinating, dangerous shadow who has never been far from her side. Though he's made her life a living hell, Death shows Signa that their growing connection may be more powerful-and more irresistible-than she ever dared imagine.

Signa is orphaned as a baby and raised by several guardians who seem to be more interested in her inheritance and the allowance that comes with it. Unfortunately, each of these guardians seem to have met an untimely death. Six months before her 20th birthday she finds herself living with the Hawthorns, the family of her mother's late sister. Signa finds the huge mansion haunted and her cousin sick, dying of the same mysterious disease as her Aunt. It is up to Signa with a little help from others to solve this mystery. It had a gothic setting with some paranormal and romance! I loved it and didn't want to put it down. Even when I thought I knew who did it, I didn't, and I loved how the author left the story open for a second book! I will definitely be watching out for this author!

I really enjoyed this book. I loved how atmospheric and gothic it was while telling an intriguing story. The murder mystery and romance was a delightful combo. I personally did not see the twists coming but I enjoyed them very much. I look forward to the sequel!

4.25 stars I’m always wary when it comes to YA books, but this is surprisingly a decent gothic. There are still a few YA elements that I felt were melodramatic but overall I really enjoyed the mystery, romance, and supernatural elements. In Belladonna you will find murder, poisonings, spirits, masquerade balls, and interactions with Death himself. Signa, our main character, has some cool abilities and a very unique relationship with Death. There are two big reveals in this book, both of which I predicted early on. But I still enjoyed both the reveals despite knowing they would come. The romance is sweet but I feel like the author took steps at the end of this book to purposely make the relationship more difficult. But since there’s going to be a sequel I guess she needed to do something to make us want to continue reading and find out how or if this relationship will continue. The book does end on a bit of a cliffhanger that sets up the story for the next book. Overall, I loved Belladonna and I definitely plan to read the next book in the series.

I loved this! This is definitely my type of book! Gothic, Mystery, some suspense and a beautiful, swoon-worthy romance!! This is definitely the kind of book where you could easily give away too much in a review, so be careful reading them first, and I’m not going to say too much. I will say that the writing is superb, the plot was really well done, the characters were layered and the gothic atmosphere was ominous. I loved every part of this story, but the romance is my favorite. The mystery was surprising and well plotted out. I pretty much thought almost everyone was involved. Lol…I’m just kidding, but I did go through quite a few characters trying to guess who was involved. Anyway, this book was fantastic and I am really excited for Foxglove!!

dalyn Grace does a fantastic job of combining the gothic genre with fantasy. She creates this story that pulls you in and keeps you invested till the end. Signa is a heroine who has lived a sheltered life, away from most of the society she was born into. She starts as a naive young woman and throughout the book she becomes a woman who stands up for herself and learns who she is. I loved reading about Signa’s journey throughout the book. In the last few chapters, it dropped off a bit. It felt rushed and like the writing changed a bit. But it was still fantastic and with the way it ended- I’m so excited for the next book! Overall, this book was absolutely fantastic and I would absolutely recommend it to those who love the gothic, mysteries, and fantasy!
