Collateral Damage (17) (Ali Reynolds Series)
Ali Reynolds and High Noon Enterprises face the dangerous consequences of one man's desperate search for revenge in this unputdownable thriller from J.A. Jance, the New York Times bestselling author who "has been delivering must-read books for a long time" (The Real Book Spy).
After spending twenty years behind bars, Frank Muñoz, a disgraced former cop, is out on parole and focused on just one thing: revenge. The wife who abandoned him after his arrest, the mistress who ratted him out for abetting a money-laundering scheme, the detectives who presided over his case all those years ago-they all have targets on their backs.
For Ali Reynolds, the first Christmas without her father is riddled with grief and uncertainty. And with her husband and founding partner of High Noon Enterprises, B. Simpson, preoccupied by an upcoming New Year's trip to London, she is ready for a break. But when Stu Ramey barges into her home with grave news about a serious-and suspicious-accident on the highway to Phoenix involving B.'s car, things reach a breaking point.
At the hospital, a groggy, post-op B. insists that Ali take his place at a ransomware conference in London, as troubles brimming around High Noon come to light. But questions remain: Who would go to such lengths to cut the tech company from the picture? And what if Ali and the rest of the team are also in danger?

I’ve loved Ms Jance’s work for many years - okay, since the previous century, lol. Ali Reynolds, Cqmi, Stu, and B are old friends and it’s a distinct pleasure to catch up with them. Ali has come such a long way from being a news presenter. She’s a great role model. Enjoy!

Only J.A. Jance could put a story together and have all of the pieces come together in the end. I have all of her books, with the latest Lani Walker on pre-order. I actually don't have all her books, I don't have her book of poetry. Anyway, another outstanding, book by her, something I have come to expect from a fellow alumnus.

Any book that has my eyes glued to it for eight hours has to be a five star review. From the prologue to the end this was edge of your seat reading. I think this was the best Ali book I've read. Even though Ali wasn't as active in this book as some of her others the intense procedurals and story more than made up for it.

This is not a whodunit. It’s a will-the-good-guys-figure-it-out book. The entertainment comes from following along as a range of police, detectives, assorted others, and the High Noon staff works to put the pieces together. I enjoyed both the problem-solving aspect and the different characters introduced along the way. In the past I have had mixed feelings about some of the Ali Reynolds entries. In particular I had a problem with the all-knowing Frigg A.I., feeling it took the books into science fiction territory. But these days it (she?) no longer seems so far-fetched. This was a very satisfying read.

I almost didn’t choose to read this book because of a negative review. I’m glad I took a chance because of my history with this author. I have enjoyed reading all of her book series, and she didn’t disappoint me with this book. Yes, there are quite a few characters. But, the story’s villain is enacting revenge over those whom he considers persons who betrayed him. So, the story covers murder for hire over a period of years and through several jurisdictions. Consequently, having many characters in the book is realistic, and the story flows smoothly. Five stars once again for J. A. Janice.
