Dakota Born: A Novel (The Dakota Series, 1)

A second-chance town!

Like many small towns, Buffalo Valley, North Dakota, is dying. Stores are boarded up, sidewalks are cracked, houses are in need of a coat of paint. But despite all that, there's a spirit of hope, of defiance. The few people still left are fighting for their town.

Lindsay Snyder is an outsider, even though she spent childhood vacations here. Now she returns to see the family house again, to explore family secrets and to reevaluate her life. And soon after she arrives, she meets a local farmer named Gage Sinclair…

Lindsay decides to stay in North Dakota. Her decision marks a new beginning for Buffalo Valley and for her. Because in this broken little town, she discovers the love and purpose she's been seeking.

Debbie Macomber always tells great stories, and this one was superlative with a lot of characters whom you are compelled to follow and see how things develop for them!

I love the characters, even the ones that are so mean! The author paints a really good picture, weaves in emotions, and has a very positive spirit and attitude throughout the book... Relax and enjoy.

It's a series over the years. In a small town and all its ups and downs. How a southern girl from a large town can make progress and bring hope to a small farm town.

Debbie Macomber is excellent in portraying everyday, down-to-earth characters and real-life situations. I do enjoy the way that she makes you feel as if you have known her characters for years. That said, I must admit that I was a little disappointed in this book. So much of it was just sad and depressing, with just a little sunshine sprinkled here and there. I think the major problem for me was that there were too many characters and not enough time spent on the primary duo. I understand hints of characters popping up in stories that will feature in upcoming books in a series, but when SO much time is spent on a couple (Joan and Brandon) and then just left in the air, I call that a cliffhanger and not a teaser. i do love my epilogues and hate a story not having one, but the one at the end of this was just odd. 3 1/2 Stars rounded up to 4 No language or graphic sex to offend any readers

I’m excited to read the whole series. I’m from Taylor, ND. And it was fun reading about my home state. Loved the story… looking forward to more of Debbie’s books.
