Encore in Death: An Eve Dallas Novel (In Death, 56)

The homicide cop with a passion for justice returns in the captivating crime thriller series by the #1 New York Times bestselling author.

It was a glittering event full of A-listers, hosted by Eliza Lane and Brant Fitzhugh, a celebrity couple who'd conquered both Hollywood and Broadway. And now Eve Dallas has made her entrance―but not as a guest. After raising a toast, Fitzhugh fell to the floor and died, with physical symptoms pointing to cyanide, and the police have crashed the party.

From all accounts, he wasn't the kind of star who made enemies. Everyone loved him―even his ex-wife. And since the champagne cocktail that killed him was originally intended for Eliza, it's possible she was the real target, with a recently fired assistant, a bitter rival, and an obsessed fan in the picture. With so many attendees, staff, and servers, Eve has her work cut out determining who committed murder in the middle of the crowd―and what was their motivation. As one who's not fond of the spotlight herself, she dreads the media circus surrounding a case like this. All she wants is to figure out who's truly innocent, and who's only acting that way…

**I both read and listened to this book as I didn’t have the available time for straight reading on release day as I usually plan to do. Just another thing I love about the series…that the audiobook releases with the book not later. Thank you for that!** This 56th book in the series is another good one with lots of twists and turns and several clever red herrings. But I’ve got to say my favorite part was reading all the theatre references/Easter eggs. Being a huge Broadway fan I may have applied some meanings not intended by the author but if not they still amused me! (Side note, given that reference point for me I was continually irritated by Erickson’s pronunciation of one of the characters’ names. IYKYK) As usual, Eve gets called to the scene of a dead body and it’s a high profile one. One huge star, married to another huge star is killed at a party in his home in front of a huge number of witnesses. But was he the actual target or was it his wife? The story arc moves well and there are so many twists and turns in the investigations. All the usual avenues explored and the fun comes in some of the parallels to beloved Broadway shows and personalities. But don’t worry, if you aren’t a Broadway geek you will still enjoy the story. You don’t have to get the theatre references/tip of the hats in order to fully engage with the story. It’s just an extra layer of sweet if you do. There’s not as much couple time in the investigation as usual for Eve and Roarke but there is one fantastic scene that does such a great job of conveying the love between them. And it’s a nice parallel as a central theme of this story is love, all kinds of love, and what we do for it. As the story came to a close I thought back to another scene from the book and while it was sad at the time it became all the more heartbreaking. Excellent writing by the author to make that work. This is going to be a good one to re-read as the layers and the theme will become even more apparent the next time through. Very well done.

I have this entire series of books, which are excellent reading. In the past, I've always been pleased with each delivery. Unfortunately, this paperback arrived with the front cover heavily creased. While this won't affect the quality of the story, it is disappointing to receive a new book in a damaged condition.

Another murder solved. When Eve begins to unravel the circle surrounding Brent Fitzugh's death, she sees what seems a slam dunk. But as Eve and Peabody tug on the lines of the circle that idea begins to unravel. Before the case is over another death and links to a twenty five year old suicide create new threads. As it all falls apart, will a killer slip away?

Great book. I can’t wait for the next in the series. I was really pleased that Nora Roberts chose to go in a different route this time with the murder most foul. It didn’t give me time to fly through the book and just make assumptions about who was guilty. I took my time and really enjoyed the twists she introduced this time. Another great book in this series. I hope she writes it in the next book that Peabody purchases piece of art. I know that Mavis and Bella would love it.

I love the in death series and have read all of them. I’m starting to buy the books in order and received Encore in Death a few days ago and it had whole chapters of pages falling out. I was disappointed and was going to email Amazon to tell them to be more careful what they send out ,when I received a whole new book just now. I ❤️ Amazon!!!
