I, Tina: My Life Story

"The real power behind whatever success I have now was something I found within myself--something that's in all of us, I think, a little piece of God just waiting to be discovered." -Tina Turner

The monumental bestseller, the classic memoir, here is the dramatic and spectacular story of an American music icon-Tina Turner.

From small town Nutbush, Tennessee to Hollywood stardom, to global icon. In her life Tina Turner saw it, suffered it, and survived it all.

I, Tina--the inspiration for the Academy Award-nominated motion picture What's Love Got to Do with It--the legend tells her story how she lived it. An honest account of the beloved superstar's struggle and pain, but also glory and triumph, Turner's is one of the most fascinating and dramatic true stories in show business history.

Spanning decades, from her childhood to her abusive marriage to Ike Turner to the ever-evolving musical genius that endeared her to generations of fans, I, Tina is a powerful memoir of a powerful woman who became one of music's most prolific and beloved icons.

I was not expecting this book to be as good as it was. I loved both the book and the movie

I loved that Tina was very honest about her life in this book. She tell the good along with the horrible. She also shed a lot of light regarding the mistruths that were displayed in the movie, which made her seem like an innocent little girl that Ike corrupted. Tina's career may have started with Ike, but her intimate life definitely did not. Although I did not agree with her views or actions towards her children when the became adults, I do think that its a great book. Her kids drug addictions and adulthood was a result of their parents barely being around. When their parents were there, the physical and mental abuse, wild sex acts, their fathers constant cheating, the drug use, and partying, had to be traumatizing to them. For Tina to state that she was rid of Ike and that g=her sons had to figure out their own way, was a cop out to me. If you know that you werent their when they were children, the least you can do is be a strong support to them throughout their troubled adulthoods.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BOOK. I mean I’ve been a fan a huge one from Private Dancer, I didn’t know a lot of music from Tina with Ike/Revue but shortly after i listened and loved it. BUT this book I mean to read the gruesome, horrific, outright traumatizing events. I REREAD THE FIRST 9 chapters every time I opened the book, I mean it was mind blowing truly. Honestly she’s gained my respect daily. I couldn’t imagine each day her waking up fear just growing by the second, living and working with a ticking time bomb. Tina Turner deserves everything EVERYTHING AND EVERYTHING PLUS MORE. Must read!!

What a DARING life story!! My soul longed for this book, and I didn’t even know it until I read it. It’s helping me on my new journey in Finding Strength in my Independence Day(s) while finding my own Road Back. SHE’S PHENOMENAL!

Tina Turner is a woman for all seasons. But it was the life she was forced to live by and with her ex husband Ike that was truly shameful. No woman deserves that kind of subjection, mistreatment--that kind of life! But thank God she was and is a strong woman. She never gave up and, rightly so, rose to fame after she closed the doors on her ever so destructive and tumultuous relationship/marriage I TINA, tells the Tina Tuner (Born as Anna Mae Bullock) story from birth to individual fame. The crux of the story is her abusive relationship with her ex husband Ike Turner and how she found the strength to drag herself out of the almost endless cycle of battery to freedom. Once freed, she stood on her feet, made a life for herself and family and rose to much deserved fame. She is now that great Ms. Tina Turner as we know her. Many who never heard of or read her story would be amazed to know what this woman of strength went through and somehow survived! Tina's recount of her life with Ike was impressive. I see a woman of strength and good virtues, who at one point of her life was rendered helpless but not hopeless; a woman of good values, kind and considerate heart, unselfish. I enjoyed her candor, her sweet modesty, sincerity and of course the great sense of humor, even in telling the ugly tales of the past. Some parts of the story are `hard' to read because of the vivid recollection of the battery that took place on poor Tina's body. I nevertheless recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good and sincere story from the heart and especially to women who have been battered or are going through a battering or abusive relationship. I trust you find the courage to leave immediately! Complete reading July 23, 2010.
