Lore
From the #1 New York Times best-selling author of The Darkest Minds comes a sweepingly ambitious, high-octane tale of power, destiny, love and redemption.
Every seven years, the Agon begins. As punishment for a past rebellion, nine Greek gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals, hunted by the descendants of ancient bloodlines, all eager to kill a god and seize their divine power and immortality.
Long ago, Lore Perseous fled that brutal world in the wake of her family's sadistic murder by a rival line, turning her back on the hunt's promises of eternal glory. For years she's pushed away any thought of revenge against the man--now a god--responsible for their deaths.
Yet as the next hunt dawns over New York City, two participants seek out her help: Castor, a childhood friend of Lore believed long dead, and a gravely wounded Athena, among the last of the original gods.
The goddess offers an alliance against their mutual enemy and, at last, a way for Lore to leave the Agon behind forever. But Lore's decision to bind her fate to Athena's and rejoin the hunt will come at a deadly cost--and still may not be enough to stop the rise of a new god with the power to bring humanity to its knees.

This book was incredible, and as much as people are saying it's a cross/like Hunger Games, it's so original - it's a proper jam and I loved it throughout. There was a reason Lore was the only POV and that's because she is a badass character. She's got soul, strength and depth, and I love her. I wanna know where she's gonna go next and I want a line of books about her! The side characters were brilliant, no one was lost and everyone had their own part within the story that kept it alive. THE STORY IN ITSELF THOUGH, just damn, Alexandra Bracken just smashed it out the park with the twists and turns she brought in. I would also like to make a special thank you to the hardback artist because I kept looking back at the map, the titbits at the start about the Living and Dead Lines. Even the lil bit at the end about the characters throughout the story I really enjoyed. Overall, this is a killer of a novel, and y'all gotta read it.

De longe, uma das melhores fantasias que eu já li. Uma mistura de Percy Jackson e Jogos Vorazes, de um jeito original e muito bem escrito. Será lançado no Brasil em breve.

Initial Thoughts I was so excited to get an ARC of this book on NetGalley. I loved the Passenger series by Alexandra Bracken and also love Greek Mythology. I started it right away. Some Things I Liked Mythology in modern NYC. I loved the nods to both contrasting elements. I loved the rich history and myths woven into the story as well as the backdrop of NYC and all it’s familiarity. The opening scene. I loved the drama of the fighting in the opening scene. It really grabbed my attention. The romance. I thought it was subtle and I actually really liked that about it. This isn’t a story of romance. It’s an epic tale of a hero’s quest to save the world from gods gone wild and there was a bonus sprinkle of romance. One Thing I Wasn’t Crazy About Density of the world building. The first 30% of this novel was HEAVY with concepts, names, and world building and it was a struggle to keep up. Despite having a robust glossary, I found myself constantly confused for the first 150 or so pages. Once I passed that hump, I really enjoyed the story, but it was a struggle to get into. Series Value As much as I love the world here, I don’t think there is much series value given the way the story ended. I will, however, say that I like Alexandra Bracken’s writing style. Despite the information dump at the beginning of the story, I would recommend this as well as her other books and I’d keep reading what she writes in the future. Final Thoughts I enjoyed this book. It was a race to the finish and this was the last book I read in 2020. I literally finished at 11:56pm and this was the book that pushed me over the 100k page mark in GoodReads. I’m glad I read it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Recommendations for Further Reading Passenger by Alexandra Bracken – if you enjoyed the writing style in Lore try Alexandra Bracken’s time travel duology. Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan – if you liked the idea of Greek Mythology mixed with the modern world, look no further than this epic series.

Every seven years is an Agon. The Agon is where the gods come back as mortal and are hunted. Whoever slays a god inherits the the gods power and becomes that god. Lore’s family had been slaughtered the last Agon. She has been hiding and during the next Agon two gods seek her out to help them because something is amiss. There is another god slaughtering other gods to try to win the Agon. Lore, her friends, and the gods must try to stop it before destruction happens. Oh. My. Gosh. Lore was amazing. It’s definitely going to make my favorite books of 2021 once December comes. It had a ton of action in it, friendship, and a slow burn romance. There was a lot of twists and turns. I could not put this down. It was so good. I highly, highly recommend Lore.

I actually didn't realize that NetGalley had only provided me with a sample of this one, so I am actually glad that I fell a bit behind and didn't have to wait much for this one to be published so that I could read the whole thing! I really loved it! I have long been a huge fan of Greek mythology re-tellings and this one falls into that perfect spot of feeling both familiar and totally fresh. Set entirely in New York City, there's also a lot of love for the city itself filling these pages. Titular character, Lore, is an easy-to-root for heroine - she's strong, feisty and works through her flaws as well. I really liked all of the characters - and while teen romances are predictable, this adds to the fun of reading this. The story itself is action-packed and this one quickly becomes impossible to put down! It's quite the page-turner! I genuinely enjoyed this! It works as a completely standalone read with a satisfying conclusion - but I admit that I wish that this was slated to be the start of a series, because I didn't want to say goodbye to the characters at all! I am definitely looking forward to reading more from Bracken in the future!
