Nimona: A Netflix Film

Now a Netflix animated film!

Nimona is the New York Times bestselling graphic novel sensation from ND Stevenson, based on his beloved and critically acclaimed web comic. Kirkus says, "If you're going to read one graphic novel this year, make it this one."

Nemeses! Dragons! Science! Symbolism! All these and more await in this brilliantly subversive, sharply irreverent epic from ND Stevenson. Featuring an exclusive epilogue not seen in the web comic, along with bonus conceptual sketches and revised pages throughout, this gorgeous full-color graphic novel has been hailed by critics and fans alike as the arrival of a "superstar" talent (NPR.org).

Nimona is an impulsive young shapeshifter with a knack for villainy. Lord Ballister Blackheart is a villain with a vendetta. As sidekick and supervillain, Nimona and Lord Blackheart are about to wreak some serious havoc. Their mission: prove to the kingdom that Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and his buddies at the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics aren't the heroes everyone thinks they are.

But as small acts of mischief escalate into a vicious battle, Lord Blackheart realizes that Nimona's powers are as murky and mysterious as her past. And her unpredictable wild side might be more dangerous than he is willing to admit.

I will say this is an enjoyable story with the two main characters Ballister and Nimona form a friendship while attempting to take down the Institution and just learning bits and pieces of these two was enjoyable. I was a bit upset with ending because I didn't want it end up the way it did for these two characters I wanted something for happier for these two nonetheless amazing comic. Only downside was the packaging in the Amazon box made come a bit damaged with book spine bent in weird position and bends in the paper a bit

“Nimona” is pretty much one of the most charming comic reads i’ve read in a long, long time. It centers on a brooding villain who has a new sidekick in the form of a spunky teen girl who has an amazing shapeshifter ability. It was a surprising and marvelous read as our villainous duo is the funny and fierce heart of the story as we learn more about their pasts and see them bond together despite their differences. Its world, art style and storytelling shift Stevenson’s comic into something so fantastic and refreshing. Not every good protagonist has to be a hero. A (100%/Outstanding)

I feel like I've seen bits of this a long while ago, but thanks to the new Netflix movie I decided to read the comic! I love it. I love both. Beautiful and complex characters, wonderful love stories between best two best friends, and between two people who's love is a little more complex but still just as real. I love th artwork and the story lines. I could read multiple stories with these characters forever! LGBT+ representation, best friend/fatherly relationship, chaotic funny character that I just love reading about. What more could I want from a comic/graphic novel.

My daughter (9 years old) absolutely LOVES this book! She had us buy the audiobook on Audible as well, so she can even listen to it when she goes to bed at night. She has probably read it 7 or 8 times and has only had it a week. She was introduced to the story by the Netflix adaptation, but assures me that there are many differences. *Note that there are words in it that she refuses to say aloud, but nothing too bad.

I... it hurts. I've owned this book for years, and didn't get around to reading it until AFTER watching the movie (shame on me, I know). This, I'm constantly comparing it to the movie. I didn't like the beginning as much, nor the ending. But it was a different sort of absolutely wonderful story than the movie. It shook me just as hard, but without as many laughs. This does not dissuade me from seeking out all of ND Stevenson's other works and voraciously reading those, because it is *really good.* I recommend this book to anyone who believes in the power of change, within themselves, within others, within the world. Hope, acceptance, and being genuine are all strong themes throughout.
