Nowhere for Very Long: The Unexpected Road to an Unconventional Life

In this beautifully written, vividlydetailed memoir, a young womanchronicles her adventures travelingacross the deserts of the AmericanWest in an orange van named Berthaand reflects on an unconventionalapproach to life

A woman defined by motion, Brianna Madia bought a beat-up bright orange van, filled it with her two dogs Bucket and Dagwood, and headed into the canyons of Utah with her husband. Nowhere forVery Long is her deeply felt, immaculately told story of exploration-of the world outside and the spirit within.

However, pursuing a life of intention isn't always what it seems. In fact, at times it was downright boring, exhausting, and even desperate-when Bertha overheated and she was forced to pull over on a lonely stretch of South Dakota highway; when the weather was bitterly cold and her water jugs froze beneath her as she slept in the parking lot of her office; when she worried about money, her marriage, and the looming question mark of her future. But Brianna was committed to living a life true to herself, come what may, and that made all the difference.

Nowhere for Very Long is the true story of a woman learning and unlearning, from backroads to breakdowns, from married to solo, and finally, from lost to found to lost again . . . this time, on purpose.

Great my dog wants a van now. Brianna is incredible at expressing her emotions. You can see the story so clearly through her words. THERAPEUTIC and INSPIRING read.
Yeah, I hardly know where to begin with this one… it is beautifully written, absolutely inspiring, binge-worthy, and heart-wrenching. It really has it all: love, joy, peace, sorrow, anger, universal honesty. It truly encompasses the entire human experience. Very raw and real in the best way. There’s a depth to this book that just… I haven’t encountered it reading anything else. Brianna is clearly a very special soul and I’m so glad she produced this work of art and shared it with the world. I don’t often purchase hard copies of books due to limited space, but this one totally deserves a space on the bookshelf. This is the kind of book I hope my kids read one day. Seriously, go ahead and bury me with this book because it really is THAT good. Buy it and buy one for your mom, your neighbor, and your dog too.

I’m exhausted. Made the mistake of starting early last evening and stayed up most the night. This book is satisfying on many levels. The writing is insightful, creative, emotional, and downright inspiring. Thank you Brianna for stringing it all together for us!

I read this book cover to cover in one sitting. Haven't done that since Harry Potter days! What else can account for the speed of reading than my emotional investment in briannas story and dogs prior to the book and my pining and reverence for the Utah desert? One of my favorite parts of the book was when brianna read her mom's living will that requested her ashes be spread across the Utah mountain range brianna took her to. Instantly cried. I also had a run in with a stranger in the washes of Nevada and my faith in chance encounters was restored, so I enjoyed reading about briannas experience with the old man in Utah.
