Out of Nowhere

#1 New York Times bestselling author Sandra Brown returns with a fast-paced, emotional thriller where the lives of a young mother and a high-rolling consultant collide under devastating circumstances-culminating in a desperate manhunt that will change their futures forever.

At a Texas county fair, amidst carousels and a bustling midway, children's book author Elle Portman is enjoying a rare night out with her favorite cowboy: her two-year-old son, Charlie. But just as they're about to head home, the unthinkable happens: a shooter opens fire into the crowd, causing widespread panic to erupt all around them.

Also caught in the melee was corporate consultant Calder Hudson. Arrogant, self-centered, and high off his latest career win, he's frustrated and confused when he wakes up in the hospital after undergoing emergency surgery on his arm.  The doctor tells him that he was lucky-that as far as gunshot wounds go, he pulled through remarkably well.  Others weren't so lucky, which instills in Calder a furious determination to get justice . . . a goal shared by Elle.

Their chance encounter at the police station leads to a surprising and inexplicable gravitation to one another, but even as the attraction grows, Elle and Calder can't help but wonder if the unimaginable tragedy that brought them together is too painful and too complicated to sustain-especially while the shooter remains at large.

I have all of Sandra Brown novels. I can alway count on her books being well written and with compassion. The mysteries are great, well thought out and written. This book was sad because one of the characters. I empathize with all victims. Well written book that I do recommend you read.

I have always loved Sandra Brown, however this book got off to a slow start. I was not sure I would finish it. I’m so glad I did not give up. The characters as always were well flushed out. Just enough teasing to keep us guessing and I did not know the culprit until purposely revealed. Enjoy another rich read from this great arthur.

This was a kind of different book for Ms Brown. Lots of sex compared to her last book. Could have used a little less F bombs. But the story was compelling and kept you guessing but I confess I had the culprit in mind 3/4 of the way into the book and turns out I was right. It was a quick read and could maybe been a little longer.

I finished this book in two days because it’s hard to put down. The plot was sad and unfortunately all too familiar for everyone but Sandra Brown wrote it tastefully and with sensitivity. The characters are flawed but likable and determined to find answers with or without outside help. The ending wasn’t a complete surprise but it’s still action packed and a page turner from start to finish.

Kept me guessing. Many possible culprits! Lots of action! Reading this novel was an adventure! Recommend it to all who enjoy mysteries! With one caution: sex scenes are currently ubiquitous in adult novels. If I wanted to read endless descriptions of body parts, touching, etc, I would get a book written by a MAN! I would like women authors to be more discreet. One such scene is all that is needed to get the attraction across! (they go on for pages!), I would buy a different genre of book!
