Peril: Three Thrilling Tales of Taut Suspense (Blood Ties, The Logans)

From the romantic thriller powerhouses behind the instant USA Today bestseller PIVOT, comes three new interwoven stories about brave heroes who rise up to take down a treacherous gang bent on robbery and destruction, to keep their homes, and the women they love safe…

Three women. Three connected stories. Three bestselling authors.

When a cop killer resurfaces in Denver, enlisting the help of a pair of local lowlifes, it marks the beginning of a violent crime spree that will wreak havoc and endanger lives. Law enforcement is on alert from the first sighting of the cold-blooded trio. To take down this brutal gang, only those willing to risk everything they hold dear stand a chance . . .

First, a pair of Denver police officers facing each other for the first time after one night of abandon find themselves working together to stop an ambitious bank heist. In Wyoming, a string of robberies marks the gang's arrival, and the local sheriff springs into action when the criminals discover his estranged fiancée can identify them. Finally, in the mountains of Colorado, the gang takes shelter on a peaceful guest ranch, where a fiercely protective rancher is hellbent on roping the fugitives up for good.

Trusting their sharply honed instincts, three rugged men will fight to stop the rampage before the women they'd die for become the next victims . . .

Overall loved the book. Not super spicy but each book had romance and sexy times. Book 1, Redemption by Alexandria Ivy sets up the overarching story of a crime, spree crossing state, and city lines, and the hero/heroine couples that try to stop them. I have not read anything by Alexandria Ivy previously, but I enjoyed this second chance romance/romantic suspense. I thought Tessa and Ian had a good balance. She doesn’t take crap from him and will stand up to anything. She doesn’t let the truth sway her from doing what’s right. Rescue: Hero Style by Rebecca Zanetti brings us to a new small town where our heroine Ella is nursing, a broken heart after her fiancé, breaks it off. The book starts as he comes back to town, trying to mend fences, return to his job as sheriff, and prove to Ella that he is here to stay. As they are fighting through the battles of reconciliation, a crime spree takes over their small town. For those who read in order, you will recognize are criminals from book one. Another second chance romance/romantic suspense done slightly differently then book one, but similar tropes. Rebecca Zanetti is a one click author for me. Doesn’t matter what she writes, if her name is on it, I’m reading it. This book was different than her other stuff I have read, less spicy, but still very enjoyable. I absolutely loved that Ella made Caden work for it. She does not let him off the hook up easily, and I was here for it! This ties into the first book as the criminals who escaped in book one end up in Ella and Caden’s small town on a crime spree. Finally, Kat Martin brings us the finale in One Last Kiss. In this story, we meet Libby who is being forced to spend the summer on a cattle ranch to fulfill the terms of her late uncle’s will. The owner of the ranch immediately labeled her as a spoiled city girl. I truly enjoyed watching her prove him wrong. I’m not quite sure which one of them was more surprised that she fit in as much as she did and took to ranch life, like she had been born there. For as dumb as our criminals are, they certainly keep getting away, and they make another appearance on the ranch as they are trying to lay low and stay away from Denver. Finally, our hero couples are able to win the day and put the bad guys back where they belong.

Peril includes three romantic suspense novellas written by three authors with a common thread of the antagonists: Redemption by Alexandra Ivy, Rescue: Hero Style by Rebecca Zanetti, and One Last Kiss by Kat Martin. Redemption is largely set in Denver, Colorado. Tessa Ralston is part of the cold case unit in Wisconsin, but when she receives a tip that the man who killed her partner when she was a patrol officer in Denver is back in town. She goes there and is partnered with Ian Sullivan, a Denver detective, and a man she had a one-night stand with before leaving Colorado. As always, Ivy does a remarkable job with characterization and world-building. The writing flowed well with plenty of suspense and some surprises along the way. Themes include murder, domestic abuse, office politics, romance, trust, and family relationships. Rescue: Hero Style is set in Redemption, Wyoming and the criminal gang commit a string of robberies. Ella Riverton works at the bank and is trying to get over the fact that the man she was engaged to left six weeks ago and broke off their engagement in a note. Caden Scott, the sheriff, is that man. Caden arrives back in town about the same time as the gang arrives. While dealing with that, he is also trying to get back with Ella. While the characterization and world-building are great, Caden is an alpha male and doesn’t seem to listen to Ella. The chemistry was there, but Ella seemed to need more time to work through her feelings than Caden was willing to give her. The story moved at a good pace with plenty of action and suspense. Themes include romance, love, post-traumatic stress syndrome, robbery, assault, death, greed, and more. One Last Kiss is set on a ranch near Coffee Springs, Colorado and continues the story of the criminal gang and features Liberty (Libby) Hale and Sam Bridger. Libby’s great-uncle Marty raised her after her parents died in a car accident. He made a codicil to his will that requires her to spend one month working as an employee at Bridget Ranch before she can get her inheritance. Once again, the characterization and world-building are great. Martin is a superb storyteller who kept the suspense level high and provided me with gripping and emotional scenes. The chemistry was palpable between Libby and Sam. The criminal gang is back and their crimes have escalated in this one. Themes include grief, anger, resentment, robbery, death, romance, assault, and much more. Overall, this fantastic trio of novellas has three wonderful couples facing a gang of criminals in very different situations. It’s emotionally-charged, suspenseful, and entertaining. Readers who enjoy romantic suspense will likely enjoy this book. 3 Arthur's come together to write 3 interrelated stories. I thought the writings and cross stories were seamless. I couldn't put the book down. Rebecca has a series that ties into her story.
