Ship Wrecked: A Novel

After All the Feels and Spoiler Alert, Olivia Dade once again delivers a warm and wonderful romantic comedy about two co-stars who once had an incredible one-night stand-and after years of filming on the same remote island, are finally ready to yield to temptation again…

Maria's one-night-stand-the thick-thighed, sexy Viking of a man she left without a word or a note-just reappeared. Apparently, Peter's her surly Gods of the Gates co-star, and they're about to spend the next six years filming on a desolate Irish island together. She still wants him…but he now wants nothing to do with her.

Peter knows this role could finally transform him from a forgettable character actor into a leading man. He also knows a failed relationship with Maria could poison the set, and he won't sabotage his career for a woman who's already walked away from him once. Given time, maybe they can be cooperative colleagues or friends-possibly even best friends-but not lovers again. No matter how much he aches for her.

For years, they don't touch off-camera. But on their last night of filming, their mutual restraint finally shatters, and all their pent-up desire explodes into renewed passion. Too bad they still don't have a future together, since Peter's going back to Hollywood, while Maria's returning to her native Sweden. She thinks she needs more than he can give her, but he's determined to change her mind, and he's spent the last six years waiting. Watching. Wanting.

His shipwrecked Swede doesn't stand a chance.

Maria & Peter’s story is sexy and funny and there’s a lot of drama, but it’s not due to any cartoonish tropes. The connection between them rings true, and their personalities and choices are in line with their lived experiences. Beloved characters from the previous books in the series factor in for a giant, warm, Swedish-flavored hug from the wonderful mind of Olivia Dade. I devoured this book in a single day, as I have with her other works.

I have loved everything I've read by Olivia Dade. This book was especially dear to me because not only did it have a strong female lead who was curvy, it also had a strong male lead who was heavy. I loved the way she described their attraction to one another and their intimate scenes. Thank you, Olivia Dade, for writing that makes me grateful. :)

Ship Wrecked" has several truly wonderful components to the book. Olivia Dade is building off her Gods of Gates cast members from "Spoiler Alert" to "All the Feels". The scenery and world setting are fully established and she has showcased her skills for some truly snarky and hilarious dialogue. On an added level of complexity, Dade has integrated very real stigmas that everyday people encounter and brought them to the forefront of her storyline. My one criticism of "Ship Wrecked" is that the climax took a really long time to show itself. This book was so enjoyable and I will stupefy my friends with vague references to their "blue cupboards" for years to come. However, I kept waiting to understand why there were so many barriers to their relationship and it took a long time to come to a resolution when the underlying emotion of the story was the love between these two fragile and complex human beings.

As an unrepentant fangirl who was horrified at how a certain epic TV series handled its last season (and who may have written fix-it fanfic to control her urge to throw an ax at the TV screen) I was delighted when SPOILER ALERT came out, thrilled when it was followed by ALL THE FEELS, and squee-ed in delight when SHIP WRECKED popped up on my Kindle. Peter and Maria's love story felt utterly real and raw, two people working through some major issues of their own in order to find intimacy and acceptance with each other, and I was cheering for them all the way through. But SHIP WRECKED and the entire series is also about a different kind of love; namely, the way a group can come together through being fans of a TV show/movie/book series or actually working on that property, and the bonds (platonic, romantic, or otherwise) that can arise from this type of coming-together. From the regulars on the Lavineas fanfic server to the tight-knit group of Gods of the Gates actors (minus Ian the Tuna King) that form a found family, this series demonstrates the importance of finding your people and sharing friendship, love, and support. Once again, a marvelous end to a marvelous series. Thank you, Ms. Dade.

Maria and Peter have a literal steamy meet-cute - in a sauna! They spend a passionate night together, and Maria ghosts Peter to avoid complications. Maria isn’t going to get away easily from the encounter because the next day, she learns some news. The good news is that she won a role in the epic fantasy television series, “Gods of the Gates.” The bad news is that her co-star is Peter, her one-night stand from the night before. Professionalism triumphs and Maria and Peter form a tentative friendship during their six-year roles. They soldier through arduous working conditions and the isolation of their rugged worksite in rural Ireland. Their chemistry simmers and begins to boil toward the series finale. The high-profile series allows Maria and Peter to become role models for body positivity and diverse casting. As their roles conclude, their diverging career paths create conflicts, and an uneasy relationship falters. Maria is likely to return to her native Sweden, and Peter will go back to work in LA. Dade created Maria, Peter, and other delightful characters in her previous works. Their starring roles in this work don’t disappoint. Great dialogue and imaginative scenes make for a very enjoyable read. I highly recommend “Ship Wrecked” and the other two books in this charming series, “Spoiler Alert” and “All the Feels.” They’re all winners!
