The beautiful cover of this book made me want to read it but sadly I wasn’t completely drawn into the story as I had hoped I would be. It was supposed to be a Christmas story as the title led me to believe but Christmas was only mentioned occasionally . The book didn’t seem realistic and I thought some of the things characters did was not very Amish. The adults seemed to have little authority over the kids. What Amish parent would have allowed a twelve year old boy to go out after dark to hang out with friends that the parent had never met. It’s not like a twelve year old would be on Rumspringa yet. This is only one example. The book was slow to get started and dragged in a lot in places. I wasn’t overly impressed with the characters. Mark Yutzy would be my favorite character because he was a hard worker but then the other characters seemed to criticize him for being the way he was. What was the main focus of the story ? Not really sure. Might have been letting go of the past and trusting God with the future. Readers of Love Inspired books and Amish Fiction might enjoy this book.
