The most delightful Christmas romance of 2020.

Shell Smith is the most popular make-up artist on the ART counter at Duke & Sons, a beautiful but old-fashioned department store in her hometown. But whilst Shell's love life is looking up, now that she's dating long-time crush Nick, and business is booming in the beauty department, the rest of the store is noticeably quiet . . .

The owner's grandson Callum has come up with some creative ways to keep Duke & Sons afloat this Christmas, including allowing a production company to secretly film a romcom after hours. When Callum recruits her to help out, Shell finds there is more to Mr Duke Jr. than sharp suits and a business-like demeanour.

With a store to save and her own romance with Nick going off-script, Christmas just got complicated for Shell. But this is the most wonderful time of the year, so there must be a happy ending awaiting . . . Right?

The literary equivalent of a mince pie warm out of the oven, with a dollop of brandy custard on the side―Sarra Manning, Red Magazine

Adorable―Ella Risbridger

I read Someday at Christmas in a bath I kept topping up, with a glass of port and a mince pie beside me. It's a gorgeous, cosy read, rich in delicious wintery detail, and Shell is a heroine who'll stay with me, one I was rooting for (both professionally and personally) from page one. In the midst of a strange year, it made me nostalgic for visiting the make-up counter, for occasions that call for great lipstick, for crowded nights in the pub, and for shameless flirting fueled by Christmas cheer. This book is an absolute treat. It ticks all of the festive read boxes but still feels fresh and contemporary. Shell is a dream of a heroine and I loved the focus on family and friendship as well as romance.

I really enjoyed this Christmas book. It’s about a group of friends who work in a beautiful old department store. The protagonist Shell Smith is the top make up artist in the store and she loves her job, she’s the first person in and the last person to leave. She has great friends and a supportive family. Life seems perfect until ex-boyfriend Nick comes back to town and then rumours start that the store is being sold. The story is lighthearted, funny, romantic and warm. Its a perfect cozy winter read.
