Texas Outlaw (A Texas Ranger Thriller, 2)

To Rory Yates being a Texas Ranger is about justice, but all of that changes when he is brought to a small southern town to help uncover the mysteries behind a local woman's death-only to discover corruption and lies.

Texas Ranger Rory Yates is not keen for hero status. But it's unavoidable once his girlfriend, country singer Willow Dawes, writes a song about his bravery. Rory escapes his newfound fame when he's sent to the remote West Texas town of Rio Lobo, a municipality with two stoplights. And now, according to the Chief of Police, it has one too many Texas Rangers.

Rio Lobo Detective Ariana Delgado is the one who requested Rory, and the only person who believes a local councilwoman's seemingly accidental death is a murder. Then Rory begins to uncover a tangle of small-town secrets, favors, and lies as crooked as Texas law is straight.

To get to the truth before more people die, Rory is forced to take liberties with the investigation. The next ballad of Rory Yates may not be about a hero, but rather an outlaw song.

I realize why I quit reading Patterson’s books, never again! They are a waste of time. I think a 6th grader could do better. To think I spent real money on this shows how you can let this virus thing effect your thinking.

Rory Yates loves being a Texas Ranger, but he doesn't love the limelight. Being good at his job and having a girlfriend who needs the limelight to be a successful singer makes him a hero irregardless. Following the law just brings out the best in Rory. This causes jealousy in the ranks and causes him to be sent to Rio Lobo to get him out of the way of the those upset with his presence. He finds problems in Rio Lobo May be much worse than looks on the surface. I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves a good adventure. I hope to see more Rory Yates books.

As a resident of Texas I like the setting and I have always been a fan of the Texas Rangers. I gather Patterson simply lend’s his name and the other guy does the writing. In any event the writing is sophomoric as is the plot.

Being a cowboy is a state of mind. Now that I have read these two Rory Yates books, back to back and hardly putting them down, I am a fan! When will book #3 become available?

I like books that are well written, but I also like books that are well balanced. I really like that the moods change in this story. It was what I liked about the the first Rory Yates. It’s an excellent mystery thriller, but it has lighter moments and even some humor. I like Rory as a character. He’s very 3 dimensional. He’s not the biggest, fastest, strongest hero who’s better at everything. The descriptions paint a vivid picture without going on so long you lose interest. I really enjoy this series.
