PRAISE FOR BLOODLESS
"Leave it to the imaginations of Preston and Child... Spooky and surreal [and] wonderful fun."
―Kirkus
"BLOODLESS is their 20th novel featuring one of the most unique protagonists in all of thriller fiction, Agent Aloysius Pendergast, and may rank as one of the finest books they have ever penned together.... BLOODLESS is a pure pleasure to read and is like candy to thriller fans --- candy from which readers will drain every ounce of flavor in pure delight."―BookReporter
"Bloodless is rife with inventive scenarios, amusing exchanges (especially between oft-impatient Coldmoon and eternally placid Pendergast) and tantalizingly spooky mysteries, topped off with a gloriously wild finale that is as action-packed as it is memorable."―BookPage (Starred Review)
PRAISE FOR CROOKED RIVER
"Exciting. Nail-biting. Quality storytelling."―Publishers Weekly
"Preston and Child know how to craft compelling stories that are both baffling and surprising. The cast of characters feels authentic and moves the story forward in unexpected ways. . . the authors are masters of the procedural with a gothic flair."―Associated Press

My wife and I have read all the Pendergast books. This one, despite the story being on the more fantastic side, is one great read. There are all manner of open avenues for this story to continue. I would have two questions for the authors: (1) Is this the most complicated and difficult novel you have authored? (2) I am surprised that nothing was mentioned about doing the same trick for Pendergast's wife. This is probably the best Pendergast story they have written.

This is not a one and done and although I Love This Series I feel cheated. As I was drawing near the end I began to realize there would be no gift boxed wrapped in pretty ribbons waiting for me. In all the Pendergast books I’ve eagerly read, I don’t recall when this particularly odious technique was used. I will always buy “the next one” in this series, Child and Preston have brought to life my favorite characters. I am saddened that I must wait for next one to Hopefully conclude The Cabinet of Dr. Leng.

I loathed the last book. It was ridiculous and silly, the supernatural on steroids. But I thoroughly enjoyed this one, with a few caveats. It essentially started as three different story lines. It was focused more on Coldmoon. And let’s be honest we’re not reading this book for him! I don’t even like his character. But he was less annoying this time. And that part of the story felt forced and unnecessary. Though his working with Vinnie added a bit of fun to the story. Vinnie’s character has grown too and is less of a caricature. I enjoyed 1880’s New York. I understand they spoke different in that age. But the overuse of fancy words wore on me after a while. I consider myself an educated person. But I was constantly having to stop to look up the definition because context alone wasn’t enough for me. The ending was a complete shock. I really didn’t see that coming. I hope they don’t tarry in getting the follow up book out!

This series of books by Preston and Child has been phenomenal...great writing, quickly moving, genre-bending, thriller plots, intriguing characters. The Cabinet of Dr. Leng has all these attributes, plus one that I don't recall from any of the others...a breathtaking cliffhanger of an ending! Special Agent Pendergast is one of the most fascinating characters in literature. His role in this book is a bit subdued for him, but I have great hopes for the final volume in the Leng quartet. Yes, it's frustrating to have to wait, but that ending!!! While I'm waiting for the next book to come out, I plan to re-read the book to pick up the rich details from 1880 New York that I rushed through in my mania to finish the book. The modern case involving Lakota artifacts is also absorbing. If you haven't read any of the other books in this series, read this one anyway! It will be a compelling read, and my bet is that you will go back and read the other Agent Pendergast books.

Ignore the bad reviews. I thought this was fantastic, and I have been critical of a few in this series. Not this one, though. This one had everything (and everyone) and the plot was a ride. What a treat for those of us who have read every Pendergast book, and what a treat to continue on with one of the best books in the series, The Cabinet of Curiosities. Actually, throw some Relic in there, too, because got some of that, as well. I absolutely loved it, and for those who were upset by the ending, just be glad they decided to add more to this story, instead of just closing it out. I don't remember people complaining about the open-ended nature of the last one. I'd also be curious to know what you thought would be better than what they gave us. My theory is that it was so good, no one wanted it to end. Also, I'm pretty sure they dropped some foreshadowing to that ending earlier in the book (curious to see if they really did mean to do that, and if anyone else caught it) but when that ending hit, it was a surprise and it was GOLD. I cannot wait for the next one. Hurry up, guys!
