The High Mountain Court: A Novel (The Five Crowns of Okrith)

Full of romance, intrigue, magic, and passion, the first book of The Five Crowns of Okrith-the thrilling TikTok sensation from A.K. Mulford-The High Mountain Court begins the journey of the fugitive red witch Remy as she fights to reclaim her kingdom and discover what's inside her heart.

For thirteen years, nineteen-year-old Remy has known she is possibly the last red witch alive, and she is determined to stay that way. But the Northern Court King, who has slaughtered her family and placed a bounty on red witch heads, is intent on destroying her kind once and for all.

When four fae warriors enter her tavern refuge, Remy tries to flee, but her magic isn't strong enough to stop the determined-and handsome-Prince Hale of the Eastern Kingdom. He claims he wants to stop a war with the Northern Court before his kingdom succumbs to the same fate as Remy's. In order to do that, he needs a red witch…and Remy may be the only person alive who can help him.

Yet even as she's drawn to him, can she really trust Prince Hale? Can her fallen court truly be rescued from the evil clutches of the Northern Court King?

Does she even have a choice?

For the chance to save herself, her people, and help rid the world of a murderous tyrant, Remy must put her faith in Hale and his companions on a dangerous quest to find lost relics…and discover if she is ready to secure her legacy.

I really enjoyed this book. Another book club read and again another book to add to my list. I’m definitely going to read through the series as far. If you’re a fantasy fan then this is a definite recommend for you. Even if your new to fantasy this would be a good start. AK Mulford has created the foundation of a world that was easy to get wrapped into. The story kept my turning the page & I loved the pace that it all unfolded. You got action , spice & heartache but you were also rewarded with happy moments. She describes the stories as stand alones in a series. So no maddening cliffhanger but I was excited enough about this book that I’m curious as to what happens next . Looking forward to continuing this journey. There is some loss and bloody action and some yummy spice , so as always do some research make sure your all good and then dive in and enjoy the ride . Happy reading💙 side note through her newsletter she is offering the prequel to this book & epilogue as free ebook downloads

Strong Heroine Lead Enemies to lovers Slow burn romance Fated/mated pair Fae Witches Magic LGBTQ inclusive Favorite quote "Never let anyone else tell you who you are, Remmy, not even me. No one decides how bright you shine but you." This was a very good read. I enjoyed both the main character and became invested in the side characters as well. The romantic relationship between Remmy and Hale developed well. I'm not quite sure if I would fully consider it enemies to lovers but it was definitely a slow burn. And I am, of course, a sucker for a fated/mated pairing. I love the that A.K included LGBTQ relationships as well as gender inclusiveness. As much as I absolutely loved this book, I felt as though there was a potential for a whole series just from what is within this book alone. I feel like a lot was glossed over like... •Remmy's childhood •How Remmy met Fenrin and Heather •The 13 years leading up to this book •The year they were at the tavern in the beginning of the book. •Hale's childhood(who the heck is his real dad) •How Hale and his friends met •The relationship between the Royal heirs Like I said I freaking love this book. I know A.K Mulford plans to make novellas that may give more insightto missing details, but personally I feel like the story would be more polished having it all incorporated into the original books.

This book was incredible. The writing was amazing and the world that Mulford created was so beautiful. The magic system in this world was very unique and interesting. The spicy scenes were perfect and added to the plot. I love how Mulford put little hints throughout the entire book about Remy's identity and past. So as you read you could piece it together, but it wasn't all thrown at you at once. Love the tropes in this book: fated mates, one horse, touch her and you die, found family, secret identity I am excited to read the second book. I like how each book follows a different character, but I hope we still get to see Remy and Hale and how they are doing. I am excited to read Rua's story and to see her grow the way we say Remy grow.
