Think Like a Monk: Train Your Mind for Peace and Purpose Every Day

Jay Shetty, social media superstar and host of the #1 podcast On Purpose, distills the timeless wisdom he learned as a monk into practical steps anyone can take every day to live a less anxious, more meaningful life.

When you think like a monk, you'll understand:
-How to overcome negativity
-How to stop overthinking
-Why comparison kills love
-How to use your fear
-Why you can't find happiness by looking for it
-How to learn from everyone you meet
-Why you are not your thoughts
-How to find your purpose
-Why kindness is crucial to success
-And much more...

Shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things-a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. His family was convinced he had chosen option three: instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to India to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others. After three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk's path to share his experience and wisdom with others. Heavily in debt, and with no recognizable skills on his résumé, he moved back home in north London with his parents.

Shetty reconnected with old school friends-many working for some of the world's largest corporations-who were experiencing tremendous stress, pressure, and unhappiness, and they invited Shetty to coach them on well-being, purpose, and mindfulness. Since then, Shetty has become one of the world's most popular influencers. In 2017, he was named in the Forbes magazine 30-under-30 for being a game-changer in the world of media. In 2018, he had the #1 video on Facebook with over 360 million views. His social media following totals over 38 million, he has produced over 400 viral videos which have amassed more than 8 billion views, and his podcast, On Purpose, is consistently ranked the world's #1 Health and Wellness podcast.

In this inspiring, empowering book, Shetty draws on his time as a monk to show us how we can clear the roadblocks to our potential and power. Combining ancient wisdom and his own rich experiences in the ashram, Think Like a Monk reveals how to overcome negative thoughts and habits, and access the calm and purpose that lie within all of us. He transforms abstract lessons into advice and exercises we can all apply to reduce stress, improve relationships, and give the gifts we find in ourselves to the world. Shetty proves that everyone can-and should-think like a monk.

I followed Jay Shetty on Facebook for months, let’s face it, he’s not only super hot but I love the wise words of wisdom on relationships and life he comes out with. I never normally read books, I’m a busy working single mum of four. Probably not the most educated either, but I thought I’d give it and shot anway and I told myself I will just do one page a day. I’m absolutely loving reading this book. It’s very in-depth, easy to understand and Nice to read so far. It feels wonderful to take a short moment out of my busy life to spend it on reading on how to be a better version of me, and hopefully by this, create a better life for myself. Also, working on ‘’me’ gets my attention off my slightly disastrous relationships status. “They say” you have to find happiness in yourself first and then things will fall into place naturally so hopefully this is the beginning of my journey. I’m only 10 pages in but definitely loving it so far. Also the book is big and is excellent quality!! What a bargain. Thank you Jay for your wise words of wisdom. Wish me luck ! 🍀 Eva

The is the most spectacular read! Jay has truly mastered how to marry wisdom and science sprinkled with some wit on top to make a book that helps you easily digest some extremely profound knowledge and apply it to your everyday life! Wonderful personal stories filled with growth and humility. Written and verbal exercises to expand your heart, mind and soul. Never does he preach or belittle, he only offers experiences and suggestions on mindset and lifestyle to help you get to your higher self. The best part about this book is you can read front to back or skip to chapters that are calling to you and learn from there! A rich book you can tell that was made with love, kindness, thoughtfulness and the intentions to help. A true treasure in every chapter that you can reread and learn something new every time! You don’t have to live like a Monk to think like one! Master your mind, master your life!! Looks like I know what I’m getting everyone I love for Christmas this year! 😁

I’ve been waiting for Jay Shetty’s book to be released and it’s in my hands today!!! SO EXCITING! I feel like it’s my birthday!!! I got one copy for my teenager and one for me. Amazon just delivered it, I made tea, sat down to skim it but got pulled-in and ended up reading the first two chapters already! The ancient wisdom that Jay learned as a monk is translated into practical modern terms and examples very well, making it easy to digest and put to practice! The world NEEDS this information in these weird times (2020), and Jay has masterfully curated the tools we can all use to breakthrough as individuals and as a community! Much love and gratitude Jay Shetty! Thank you for writing, Think Like A Monk!

I’m seeing so many reviews about Jay Shetty stealing others’ quotes and passing them off as his own and that this books is not original— just a sum of other’s work and I have to respectfully disagree! Jay Shetty was a MONK for several years! Where do you think he learned all that he knows? From great teachers, ancient scriptures, and consistent meditation! Many of the quotes in his book he adds who spoke those words and some he doesn’t but he NEVER says, “I, Jay Shetty, said these words first” or “these are my own words.” Quotes are just words. Just because someone “quotes” something that someone said, does not mean that person said it first or that, that person is the only person who says those words or thinks that way. And this book is WAY more than just quotes! He put so much work and value into this book! We all learn from one another and Jay is extremely knowledgeable and wise! Why would he condemn his soul by lying to the world? All he is trying to do is help—serve others. I pre-ordered Think Like A Monk, and it is like my study guide! I love it and it is truly helping me evolve. I take notes, leave sticky notes, and flag pages to go back and review when I need to. This book is truly a study guide and if you want to enlighten your soul, then this book is absolutely for you! Please remember to always see things for yourself! You can’t hate someone you don’t know because someone else told you that, that person is a bad person (simply because that person did something they didn’t like). That person could be the one who helps you the most or becomes one of your closest friends. Same goes for this book, don’t let negative people steal this opportunity from you to read a great book. I truly love it!
