This Woven Kingdom (This Woven Kingdom, 1)
New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestseller! Clashing empires, forbidden romance, and a long-forgotten queen destined to save her people-Tahereh Mafi's first in an epic, romantic trilogy inspired by Persian mythology.
To all the world, Alizeh is a disposable servant, not the long-lost heir to an ancient Jinn kingdom forced to hide in plain sight.
The crown prince, Kamran, has heard the prophecies foretelling the death of his king. But he could never have imagined that the servant girl with the strange eyes, the girl he can't put out of his mind, would one day soon uproot his kingdom-and the world.
Perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo, Tomi Adeyemi, and Sabaa Tahir, this is the explosive first book in a new fantasy trilogy from the New York Times bestselling and National Book Award-nominated author Tahereh Mafi.
"In a tale as exquisitely crafted as one of Alizeh's own garments, Mafi weaves a spell of destiny and danger, forbidden love and courtly intrigue, magic and revolution."-Cassandra Clare, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Last Hours
"This Woven Kingdom is an exquisite fantasy. Rich with clever prose, delicious twists, and breathtaking world building. Prepare to be destroyed-this one will wrench at your heart and make it pound, and in the end it will leave you entirely speechless."-Stephanie Garber, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Caraval series

"This story is so magical and transportive that I fully expected the book would know the moment I'd finished - within hours, no less - and promptly unravel into a pile of jewels and silks in my hands. Mafi's diamond-bright lyrical voice weaves a tale that is gilded in magic, laced with subterfuge, adorned with the brocade of a tortuous romance, and richly embroidered with Persian mythology. I cannot wait for more." - Roshani Chokshi, New York Times bestselling author of The Gilded Wolves
"I've been longing to read a story inspired by The Shahnameh, and This Woven Kingdom captivated me with its deft worldbuilding and searing romance. Alizeh's quiet strength unfurls against a darkly magical backdrop. This book is a glittering jewel, complete with razor-sharp edges."
- Renée Ahdieh, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Wrath & the Dawn series
"Forbidden romance steams up the pages of this Persian mythology-inspired fantasy series opener[, in] a luxurious, saffron-scented world, where devils whisper unwelcome prophecies and princes fall in love with ice-eyed Jinn. Hopeless romantics will relish the euphoric agony of anticipation as they watch these fated lovers sort through their feelings. Like an intricate Islamic flower mural, Mafi's story expands deliberately, each small revelation rising from the one before, delivering deeply satisfying epiphanies. The wait for a return ticket to this exquisite kingdom is made bearable only by flipping to the front and repeating your first visit." -

The book came with my other 2 books: the fine print and terms and condition by Lauren Asher and all came protected and unscathered

It is slow in places, a little repetative and slightly contradictory. At first I was about ready to give this 2 stars and my outrage at all the recommendations for it but get to pg 265 and you'll continue. (Or as @bumblebeezus said pg 323 I did, it was worth it). The end... worth it but cliffhanger welp.

TAHEREH MAFI DID IT AGAIN. I loved this book, it was a brilliant fantasy with a wonderful new world. There’s a knife to throat scene where she is naked 🤭 There’s a hiding in the dark with each other scene. He’s a prince. She’s a jinn. Kinda enemies to lovers. MASSIVE plot twist at the end. She wears a veil but he still falls in love with her.. The only thing that was a bit annoying was that it was quite slow but the writing was beautiful. I was so happy when I found this for only £6!! A HARDBACK, A NEW RELEASE, A TT BOOK for £6??? bargain. anyways buy it xo

This vibrant story perfectly combines Persian folklore, fairytales (Cinderella, Rumpelstiltskin, Alladin), magic, political plots and self-discovery. Tahereh writing style is lush, with vivid descriptions of places, clothing, colours and smells and it was so easy to get swept away by the narrative line. But what I loved most about it was the heroine, Alizeh. She's a royal, a powerful Jinn, but she lives in hiding as a seamstress and a servant. Her compassion and empathy made me immediately lover here. She's such a complex character with a tragic background and a promising destiny. There are some romance elements as well but they're very moderate and hopefully this will be explored more in the next book of the series (I am badly rooting for Kamran). The cliffhanger at the end left me wanting more and i can't wait to see how things will unfold further. Some tropes you'll discover in this book: enemies to lovers, forbidden love, chosen one, hidden royal.

I’ll be the first to admit that my favorite genre the past several years has been young adult fantasy romance. There is just something about it that, when done well, absolutely hits for me. The problem is that recently the books being pushed under that genre just haven’t worked for me. They’ve felt hollow and soulless. This Woven Kingdom was one of my most anticipated releases for 2022 and I was afraid I would have the same issues with it. I should never have doubted Tahereh Mafi. This book is absolutely everything I love in young adult fantasy romance. We have our female protagonist, Alizeh. Alizeh works as a servant in a prominent household and tries only to keep to herself, do good work, and be left alone. Of course, that is not how it turns out otherwise it would be a very boring book. She keeps finding herself hunted and in trouble no matter how hard she tries to keep her head down. The poor girl just wants to live in peace but peace is not something she is going to find. Instead we are in a world of Jinn and magic that sits on the brink of war with an ailing leader at the helm and, obviously, our budding love interest is the prince of that realm. Kamran is an interesting fellow in a “took many hormones, too little space to put them” kind of way and he only has eyes for the mysterious Alizeh. He manages to be both a hard edged, murderous creature and a big ole soft dumplin. Honestly, he seems a little confused and out of sorts about what he wants in life and is struggling to make sense of the difference between his place and what he wants for himself. Of course there are enigmatic shadowy figures that you just know are going to have a bigger part in the story later but there is some solid groundwork laid for those characters here in the first book of this trilogy. Especially Cyrus. I cannot wait for more Cyrus! Overall, I absolutely devoured this book. It had the romance, magic, and high stakes that I love in the genre. I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 for a couple reasons. One being that that world building wasn’t very fleshed out at all but I feel like we will likely get more information on that in the next book. Also there were a couple of characters that took up considerable page space but ended up being little more than window dressing which I found a little frustrating. But, I loved this story and will be scooping up the next book in the trilogy the MOMENT that it comes out.
