Ulysses (Wordsworth Classics)

Ulysses by James Joyce COMPLETE AND UNABRIDGED. With a new Introduction by Cedric Watts, Research Professor of English, University of Sussex. James Joyces astonishing masterpiece, Ulysses, tells of the diverse events which befall Leopold Bloom and Stephen Dedalus in Dublin on 16 June 1904, during which Blooms voluptuous wife, Molly, commits adultery. Initially deemed obscene in England and the USA, this richly-allusive novel, revolutionary in its Modernistic experimentalism, was hailed as a work of genius by W. B. Yeats, T. S. Eliot and Ernest Hemingway. Scandalously frank, wittily erudite, mercurially eloquent, resourcefully comic and generously humane, Ulysses offers the reader a life-changing experience.

Editorial Reviews

"This edition, complete with an invaluable Introduction, map of Dublin, notes, and appendices, republishes for the first time, without interference, the original 1922 text."--In Dublin

"After more than seventy years of editorial corrections, specialists will buy the 'uncorrected' edition for its accuracy. Others should choose it as much for Johnson's excellent introduction and notes." --Tim Kendall, Notes and Queries

Joyce is impossible to read with any comprehension.....will never try to finish it or read anything else by Joyce.

Much bigger than I expected for the price! Was worried for such a low price I would get a teeny tiny little paperback. Happy it’s a full sized paperback!
sad and timeless
This is not a book for casual reading, but if you can pay attention, read carefully, and look a few things up, you will be rewarded by being in touch with Joyce's phenomenal intelligence and great gifts. This book changed twentieth century writing; it is a monument. But it's also an engrossing novel with some of the most fully realized characters to be encountered in literature. Joyce had a musician's ear,and is remarkable also for getting the "sound" of each character, as well as each separate way of looking at the world.

As a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers I embraced this booki. I had gone to Ebbet`s field many times as a youngster and it made me feel good on how Roger not only told you about their time on the team, but where they ended up in life after baseball.

Couldn't pass on this one, the price was great and I want to continue adding to my library! The extensive Introduction and notes set the stage and provided insight for this amazing novel. Will buy more Wordsworth Classics to complete my collection!
