Verity

Whose truth is the lie? Stay up all night reading the sensational psychological thriller that has readers obsessed, from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends With Us.

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn't expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of the night her family was forever altered.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents could devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue loving her.

Warning bells should have gone off when the author seemed to have no idea how publishing worked, despite having written several books before this. My guess is that it was an early attempt which was roundly rejected and she's now self-publishing as her publisher rejected it. It makes absolutely no sense, the "solution" is completely implausible and impossible and the heroine and hero are more cardboard than Amazon packaging. Lots of dick-sucking happens, if you like that kind of thing. I don't mind it myself but the only good piece of writing in the entire book is where the author observes that her own dick-sucking descriptions are getting tedious. On that, if nothing else, she's entirely correct.

I am a massive Colleen Hoover fan and when I heard she had written something completely different I was sceptical that she could pull it off but I take my thought back as this woman has written something that I could never imagine and it’s pure genius. I have never read a book that makes we wake up in the middle of the night to check the end of my bed but Colleen has achieved this. I read this book with anxiety, fear and pure horror at what I was reading... and when you think you have worked out the plot BAM a bend in the road appears. I have not been able to put this book down, I will say this with pure confidence this is the best book I have read if 2018! Well done Colleen hats off to you you took a gamble and it paid off... if you want a book like nothing you have read before this is the one!!!

I don't know how to write a review for this book. I'm underwhelmed and feeling blank. I have never liked one of this author's books, sappy romance isn't my thing, so I haven't read anything by her in years. But when I saw Tarryn Fisher had promoted it and called it dark and twisty, I was exited. I enjoy a dark and twisty book, but I like smart books. Hitchcock is a favorite of mine. This is not quite that. And leaving the ending open, felt rushed. Sort of like she got down to the wire, and didn't have time to finish it. Or she wrote the book without knowing what the ending would be. I know she has a large fan club who always leave her glowing reviews, but if you are looking for a review from someone who loves this specific genre and doesn't leave fan reviews, read the Sugar and Spice review. It's a very honest three star review. I had seen it, I discounted it. I wish I hadn't. I'm finished the book and left with a meh taste in my mouth. Underwhelmed for the cost. I might have paid 0.99 for the book had I listened to the three star and less reviews. But I paid full price and it just wasn't worth it. I had to force myself to finish after the halfway mark. Great idea for a novel, but maybe better written by someone who enjoys the genre more. I hate to say stay in your lane to anyone, but clearly she has a large crowd of adoring fans for a reason. Perhaps romance is better for her.
