Vortex: An FBI Thriller (An FBI Thriller, 25)
#1 New York Times bestselling author Catherine Coulter returns with a brilliant novel in her FBI thriller series, in which agents Sherlock and Savich find themselves dealing with very powerful figures from the past who could wreak havoc in the present.
Seven years ago, Mia Briscoe was at a college frat rave with her best friend, Serena, when a fire broke out. Everyone was accounted for except Serena, who was never seen nor heard from again. Now an investigative journalist covering the political scene in New York City, Mia discovers old photos taken the night of Serena's disappearance and begins to uncover a sinister string of events going all the way back to that disastrous party. Working with Sherlock, the secrets begin to unravel. But some very powerful-and very dangerous-people will do anything to keep them from learning the truth.
CIA Operative Olivia Hildebrandt is a team leader on a mission in Iran to exfiltrate a betrayed undercover operative. She's nearly killed by an exploding grenade and saved by a team member. But by the time Olivia is released from Walter Reed Hospital, that team member and a critical flash drive he was carrying have disappeared. Olivia is attacked on her first night home, a direct result of the compromised mission and the missing team member and flash drive. But what intelligence was at stake and who betrayed them?

Nancy S., Lewis Book
I have enjoyed this series partly because of the humanity: glimpses of the interaction between Savich and Sherwood, the antics of their son Sean, fully developed supporting charters. None of these is in this book. It also relies on long summations of action or case histories, not descriptions of actual processes or interchanges. I felt that the last couple of books were stretching the series. This one should end it.

Another great book in Catherine Coulter's FBI series. I was quickly drawn into the cases and the characters. The times I had to put the book down I couldn't wait to get back to it. At times I was on the edge of my seat with my heart beating fast. I love Savich and Sherlock and I will miss them till we are back together for the next exciting cases to be solved.

Catherine Counter has another hit book on her hands. A young beautiful woman is rooted and killed at a college rave but her friends and family have never forgotten her although the case went cold. Seven years later her best friend, now a reporter for a reputable newspaper is given two photos from the party that will reopen the case and cause a whirlwind of violence threatening a political scandal. Sherlock and Savich are back along with some new CIA agents. Get to reading!

Yes, another can’t put it down Sherlock and Savitch FBI thriller. There’s really 3 different story lines here, and more Sherlock than Savitch. The frightening part, any of the story lines could be true. Some of the characters from other FBI thrillers pop in here and there. The downfall of all-arrogance. All very satisfying endings. Unlike many other series, this one just gets better and better.

I love Ms. Coulter's FBI books, and this one started out intriguing -- Olivia, a PTSD patient and CIA agent, has temporary amnesia. But someone is out to get her. Savich gets involved in this. A vicious murder (moreso than "normal") seven years ago, haunts the survivor, Mia, a reporter. Sherlock gets into this. She's also trying to bring down a psychopath killer in upstate NY. And it's that 3rd arm of the story that falls totally flat. Goes nowhere. Nothing exciting or bold about it. And too obvious. While the other two story lines follow the course of a good thriller, the whodunits are obvious from the beginning. Oh, it's fun to watch Mia, Savich, Sherlock and Olivia (the amnesia tough lady) get into the hunt. Yet there are no unexpected twists or turns. Not for me. "Vortex" is a bit of a disappointment, but it's a decent novel for fans of the series.
