The author writes truly wonderful characters and brings the world of 1800s England to life. But if you are not a fan of graphic and frequent details of intimacy, move on. . Or do what I find myself doing - scan the pages until you find the rest of what makes Kleypas an excellent read.

When is love... Worth Any Price? Charlotte Howard takes a leap into the unknown in order to avoid marrying a man 30 years her senior. Little did she know she'd be leaping right into the arms of the mysterious Nick Gentry... Charlotte is a brave and very sweet character in this novel. She runs away from her family and what little security she has so she doesn't have to marry a creeper. The strength of character it takes to leave and work in unknown circumstances is astounding. The foundation created for her character and the fact that she's so sweet and down to earth makes you love her. Now take Nick Gentry....oh man. He's mysterious, strong, and just a touch vulnerable. This is a killer combo that was very dynamic in this story. I enjoyed the banter between these two and the fact that they were so realistic and honest about their relationship is always refreshing in a romance novel. The pace of the book is a little slow, but I think it is steady enough and strings you along in a decent way. I think the thing that held me back from a 5 star review was that it felt a little rushed at the end when they really started to get into the thick of the story, so that aspect was a little disappointing. Overall Lisa Kleypas is a queen and I love all of her books, this one is no exception. The writing was wonderful and this is worth a read!

📖 BOOK REVIEW 📖 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5 If I thought Lady Sophia’s Lover burned my Kindle, this book ☝🏼could burn my room 🤣! It’s the most steamy book of the series 🔥🔥🔥🥵, but I must say it’s only my second favorite due to some character issues. And of course, it’s hard to knock Sir Ross Cannon off his thrown 😆. We knew Nick Gentry’s true identity from Lady Sophia’s Lover, but we didn’t know much detail about the brutality and suffering he had gone through while in prison hulk. The experience made him jaded, cynical, and terrified of intimacy. Fortunately he sought help from a brothel madam to learn about sexual arts and became a “well-versed” expert on the topic 🙈🥵. After many years doing dirty work as a crime lord, he was “forced” to become a Bow Street runner, and he was truly enjoying the work and dedicated to it, somewhat being reformed. But I feel like everything that eventually turned out well for him in the end was all imposed upon him, and he surely tried his best to fight and resist it. I understand his reasons toward the end, but I think it would make him a better hero if he could be braver and decide for himself what more he could have done with his birthright 🤷🏻‍♀️... Running away from an arranged marriage, Charlotte Howard worked as a companion of Lady Westcliff (YES! The Westcliffs of Stony Cross Park 😍). Being charmed by a stranger visiting the estate, she didn’t realize he was hunting for her for his commission work. But Nick soon recognized her fighting spirit and their undeniable chemistry, and marriage of convenience was offered to rescue her from her doomed fate. I love how it turned out that it was Charlotte who rescued him from his reckless lifestyle, who always took his side, supported him, and helped him fight his own demons 😍. Their sexy times were 🔥🔥🔥, the shower bath, carriage, binding to the bed, and Tantric lovemaking 🥵🥵🥵... This series gives me some thoughts about the work/life balance. These heroes used to sell their souls for their work and Bow Street, but once they found their soulmates, they were happy to step down voluntarily, remove themselves from the dangerous jobs, and dedicate more time to their families. These are what we see more often nowadays with women, who more likely to sacrifice their careers for family than their male partners (at least from what I see in science). So it’s quite fun and refreshing to see these super powerful and alpha males to be willing to change their career paths and put their families at the highest priority 😍. Overall, I quite enjoyed this series (one can’t go wrong with Lisa Kleypas anyway 😆) and would recommend it if you needed something to pull you out of book slump 😅.
