I have loved these stories as a little girl not knowing I was also learning morals that have stayed with me all this time. Now I have grandchildren that I can share these wonderful memories with.

This book is gorgeous, beautiful cover, illustrations, text. The problem is that many of the fables have morals to the story that are not relevant to that story. The Dog and Thief story sums up that honesty is the best policy as the moral when it should state something about being true your your master. (The honesty moral goes with the woodsman dropping his axe in the river). Frog and Mouse fable concludes that peace brings security but the proper correlating lesson is that when fools fight others run away with the prize. Had the editors aligned the fables with the corresponding lesson or moral I would have kept this book as it is exquisite to look at and has so many fables. Sadly, with so many improperly matched stories and lessons/morals I am returning it.

Worth every penny and I still feel like it was a steal
