Will and Sara - ably abetted by Sara and Amanda revisit Sara’s rape if 15 years before. Is it linked to other more recent rapes? I’m not sure I totally bought into the whole Rape Club but it was engrossing. What works best for for in this book is the solid and emotional relationships forming between all the characters. Amanda is de facto Will’s mum, Faith is like his sister and Sara has lost that annoying neediness that meant she was forever hurting Will. Sara telling him he has a family all along - was a tear jerker. I nearly knocked a mark off (slight spoiler alert) - I would far far rather culprits are arrested, charged, tried and imprisoned for a lengthy time (forever?) than being allowed to evade justice with a quick death. It always ruins a story for me and it’s happened a few times with Slaughter’s books. We’re all going to die and some of us won’t get a quick death either. But few of us are going to be shamed in court and sent to a disgusting jail for the rest of our lives. Don’t kill the bad guys! I am going to deduct a mark for the fact I pre ordered the hardback because I couldn’t wait for the paperback but I see the paperback is out! There are even second hand copiers of the paperbacks out! So I’ll never buy a hardback again. It’s a con.

While not being my favorite of the series, it's still an engrossing book, but in true KS fashion, the subject matter is horrific. Sara's testifying at a civil trial, one where she knows the defendant's parents, and a short conversation in the bathroom with the mother totally throws Sara for a loop. All of a sudden Will, Faith and Sara are investigating things own their own. The whole story moves fairly quick, taking the span of a few days. When news channels talk about criminals, they like to conjure up a certain image, but it seems to me that the rich and powerful ones, like in this book, are the true monsters. It's hard to read about that level of depravity. Fortunately, there are some heartwarming moments here too, Will and Sara have some sweet scenes, and Amanda talking about the wedding planning softened her a bit. And as always there's a bit of snarky humor that pops up just often enough. I appreciated this one: "Faith let them have their little moment. She was used to being the wise-cracking best friend in their Hallmark movie."

This is my favorite book of the series. Probably because I mostly read contemporary romance, so I'm a sucker for the romance between Will and Sara. In this book, there is a crime being investigated as per usual, but this time it hit much closer to home. Plus it was was investigated in an unofficial capacity. So it was mostly Will, Faith and Sara and because of that we get a lot more of their personal relationships and interactions. We get to see how close Will and Faith are as friends and colleagues as well as Will and Sara and how much they lean on each other. The story is all about people Sara knew early in her career. So Sara was involved in the investigation but not in her usual capacity of medical examiner, which was a nice change. The story came together at a good pace with a little more detail than I thought was necessary but I still loved it. Can't wait to see what's coming next.

I’ve been waiting for this book to come out since I finished the re-reads of the previous books. I was denied ARCs of the book, but it really just meant I had to wait a bit longer until I could immerse myself into Will’s world. Of course I adore more scenes of Sara and Will together, especially of Sara with her perfect engagement ring, and the teasing and banter between them. I also loved the more domestic side of Faith. I literally laughed out loud multiple times at her. I’m with her, I know my neighbors by their dogs- luckily I don’t have Hello Kitty tape in the junk drawer, but I do have a closet of construction paper and I would probably scream at my son if he chose to be in the force as well. This book had a tough storyline. Not that serial killers are necessarily easy, but Slaughter does a great job emphasizing that rape is rarely cut and dry and sadly way too hard to convict. And yet, it’s horrific to imagine.

Will and Faith are both supposed to be sidelined because Will just came out from undercover and Faith still has a raging case of PTSD from their last case, when Sara Linton fails in court with a rape case she has testified on. Will and Faith see new cases that may connect to the case Sara testified on, but rape cases are so difficult for Sara Will hates to ask for her help. This case brings Will back into contact with the Aunt that hid him as a newborn until Amanda found him, as he is forced to ask her for a favor. Sara is forced to deal with all the people who were around her when she was raped and come faced to face with another ex. which doesn’t thrill Will. Still, there seems to be girls being raped and Sara wants to help keep it from happening to other young women. This story had the best and fastest flow of any of the Karin Slaughter stories I have read, and I say with gratitude that there was very little of the usual graphic nature of her other works. This book was perfect.
