Because of Miss Bridgerton
#1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn presents the first novel of the delightful Bridgerton Prequel series in a stunning new package.
There were Bridgertons before the eight alphabetically named siblings, and in this novel, we go back to where it all began. . .
Sometimes you find love in the most unexpected of places...
This is not one of those times.
Everyone expects Billie Bridgerton to marry one of the Rokesby brothers. The two families have been neighbors for centuries, and as a child the tomboyish Billie ran wild with Edward and Andrew. Either one would make a perfect husband... someday.
Sometimes you fall in love with exactly the person you think you should...
Or not.
There is only one Rokesby Billie absolutely cannot tolerate, and that is George. He may be the eldest and heir to the earldom, but he's arrogant, annoying, and she's absolutely certain he detests her. Which is perfectly convenient, as she can't stand the sight of him, either.
But sometimes fate has a wicked sense of humor...
Because when Billie and George are quite literally thrown together, a whole new sort of sparks begins to fly. And when these lifelong adversaries finally kiss, they just might discover that the one person they can't abide is the one person they can't live without...

"Powered by a surfeit of dazzling wit and graced with a cast of unforgettable characters, Because of Miss Bridgerton is top-drawer, polished-to-perfection Quinn that will most certainly be savored by both longtime fans and new readers alike." - Booklist (starred review)
"Quinn is incomparable! The latest addition to her beloved Bridgerton series is funny, charming, witty and wildly romantic. This is Regency romance at its best, with strong characters, fast-paced action and lots of drama between two unlikely sweethearts destined for each other." - RT Book Reviews (top pick) on Because of Miss Bridgerton
"For all the Bridgerton family fans who worried the series was over once all the siblings stories were told, prepare to rejoice! Fans will not be disappointed." - San Francisco Book Review on Because of Miss Bridgerton
"Julia Quinn simply writes great heroines who march to the beat of a different drummer, while keeping them grounded in reality. The fact that she manages to write them such amazing heroes-all with the wit she's renowned for-only serves to make her books better. Because of Miss Bridgerton definitely does not disappoint; instead, it reaffirms my belief that Julia Quinn is one of the best historical romance novelists of our time." - Heroes and Heartbreakers
"This lively, effervescent Georgian tale takes place a generation before Quinn's wildly popular Bridgerton series and nicely adds to the family history." - Library Journal on Because of Miss Bridgerton

I was slightly hesitant beginning this book, especially as I had such high expectations due to Julia Quinn's previous series, especially the Bridgerton's. However, I am glad to say that this book exceeded my expectation's and more. While the books plot is not exactly an original or even uncommon trope, Quinn's spin on it makes the book all the more worthwhile and I would highly recommend it. It has all the magic a Julia Quinn novel usually possesses, and it is definitely near the top of my favourite's in my quest to read all of Quinn's books. Billie and George's book is definitely a must read, and if it isn't already in your tbr list or hell, even your shopping basket or kindle, I suggest adding it, as it is one book choice you will not regret. Also, for the people who have read the Bridgerton books or even watched the series, you will discover in between these pages, the history behind the mallet of deaths name, during a scintillating and must I say entertaining pall mall match, though not one that would best the one mentioned in Anthony and Kate's book, but then again I might be biased due to my love for that book lol :).

I had read many Regency historical romance books, but as yet nothing from Julia Quinn. So with the extra publicity of the Netflix Bridgerton series I thought I would try the first book in the prequel to it. I found the book rather uneven. The dialogue between the 2 main characters did not ring true, especially at first. I could not really believe in the move from near sibling bickering to aspiring suitor in love. The story becomes more convincing when it moves to London, although the forays into espionage seem somewhat artificial and irrelevant. I see the other books in the prequel series deal with the other sons, Andrew, Edward and Nicholas, but I am not sure whether I shall continue reading this series as the reviews I've read express many reservations not unlike mine.

I wanted to like this book. I really did. I have always loved the Bridgertons; I was hooked from the very beginning, with The Duke and I. I will say that the dialogue in this book is delightful. Witty, amusing, and fun. **POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW** The climax of the story was... completely non-existent, to be honest. It seems as if Quinn was leading up to this fantastic, exciting, adventurous ending, and then... the hero of the story, George, says, "No." Not to the heroine, of course. But to the adventure. The possibility of helping his country, the potential for finding and rescuing his brother. The idea of excitement and adventure. He refuses. So, at this point, I naturally assumed the heroine, Billie, would jump in and take up the reins, dashing headlong into the fray to face danger and risk everything to save her friend. And, given how clever, wild, and nonconformist she had acted up to this point, I had no real reason to doubt this possibility. But then she agreed with George. They wouldn't go chasing adventure in the hopes of finding his brother, Edward. And then the book ended. What.
