Belle Morte (Belle Morte series, 1)

There's only one way out

Belle Morte. One of five houses where vampires reside as celebrities and humans are paid to be their living donors. While others came here seeking fortune, I came in search of my sister who walked into Belle Morte five months ago . . . and never walked back out.

Now that I'm here, the secrets about this world have proven to be much bigger than I ever anticipated. And lurking around every corner are shocking insinuations of what happened to my sister.

There's only one person who might have the answers I need, and the undeniable pull I feel toward him is terrifying: Edmond Dantès―a vampire, and my mortal enemy.

The harder I try to resist him, the further I fall under his spell. And in one instant my life is irrevocably changed. My past becomes prologue and my fate becomes sealed behind these doors.

Belle Morte has spoken. And it may never let me go.

I really, really enjoyed this one. In Belle Morte, vampires have made their presence known to the world, and they are idolized in much the same way as celebrities. They become household names; paparazzi stalk them, people gossip about them, and many are fascinated by them and would do anything to be near them. There are many houses in which vampires reside, of which humans are able to apply to become living donors at. Some see it as an honor, some wish to be near the vampires that they so admire, and some just want the fame and fortune that being a donor brings. None of those things are true of our protagonist: she applies to become a donor at house Belle Morte to find out what's become of her sister after she goes missing while serving as a donor there. I found this one to be a really refreshing and interesting take on vampires, the characters were likeable and I could feel the chemistry between them, and the pacing felt good to me. (Thank you to NetGalley and to Wattpad Books for providing me with an ARC of this title. I'm leaving this review voluntarily.)

I’m always looking for my next vampire fix. I blame TWILIGHT. Thankfully, BELLE MORTE by Bella Higgins was exactly what I needed. This first book in a new vampire series gave me everything I needed: missing siblings, intrigue, love triangles, battles, and, of course, fancy clothes because what vampire book would be complete without those? I know I already mentioned it before, but as I was reading BELLE MORTE, it felt like I was reading TWILIGHT for the first time. The stories are not the same, but they just gave me similar vibes of that vampire and human push and pull feeling as you read. So, if you are a fan of that OG ya book, you will love this one with Renie signing up to be a blood donor for the vampires - who are out in the world and pretty much celebrities - to find her missing sister who was last seen inside of Belle Morte, one of the vampire houses. Great things: •This cover!! 😍🤩 •Renie. A stubborn lead who doesn’t get on my nerves - those are rare. •Edmond Dantès. Is he the literary character we all know or just stole a name? Y’all will have to read and find out. But in the meantime, he’s one of my favorites for a vampire. •Roux and Jason. Can I be in your friend group?? •The end. 👀 I didn’t see that coming, and I need book two now, please! Worth noting: •It could just be as I read a lot of fantasy/vampire stories, but this book was very predictable UNTIL the end scene. That did not devalue my time reading it. I loved it. It was fun. I’ll reread it, and I’m anxiously awaiting book two! BELLE MORTE is an easy read to fall into and love the characters, especially if you are a vampire fan. This was a great pain distraction for me because I didn’t have to think. I could just sit back and enjoy. I love books like this! If you’re looking for your next vampire fix, this is the way to go!
