Daughter of the Pirate King (Daughter of the Pirate King, 1)

A 17-year-old pirate captain intentionally allows herself to get captured by enemy pirates in this thrilling young adult tale.

There will be plenty of time for me to beat him soundly once I've gotten what I came for.

Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map―the key to a legendary treasure trove―seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship. More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.

In Daughter of the Pirate King, debut author Tricia Levenseller blends action, adventure, romance, and a little bit of magic into a gripping tale on the high seas.

And don't miss the sequel, Daughter of the Siren Queen!

Praise for Daughter of the Pirate King:

"Readers should rejoice, because we now have a lady Jack Sparrow on our hands! Daughter of the Pirate King kidnapped my interest from the first chapter and never let it go! It's a superior debut with a deeply entangled romance, a fearsome heroine not to be trifled with, a clever hero that you seriously want to trifle with, and a plot twist that makes a rollercoaster seem stable. With a cunning plot, robust writing, and complicated characters, any reader will enjoy being manipulated in Levenseller's capable hands. Definitely for fans of Pirates of the Caribbean, fierce heroines, slow-burning romances, and adventures that can turn sour in the space of a gasp. Not for fans of complacent heroines, soothing plots, or those who don't speak sarcasm." ―Anna Banks, author of the New York Times Bestseller Of Triton

"Levenseller has created a formidable female character who can take care of herself as she makes some hard decisions. Hand to skilled readers seeking true adventure with swashbuckling, sword fighting, and a great problem-solving heroine." ―School Library Journal

"Levenseller makes an impressive debut with this funny, fast-paced, and romance-dashed nautical fantasy, set in an alternate world of pirates, sirens, and myriad islands....This one's not to be missed." ―Publishers Weekly, starred review

"Tricia Levenseller's vivacious debut novel, the first in a duology, boasts stormy seas, sexy pirates, swordplay and a heroine who conquers all three with aplomb.... A rip-roaring high seas escapade with a tinge of fantasy, Daughter of the Pirate King will engage and enthrall its teen audience." ―Shelf Awareness

This was an incredibly fun read. I grabbed a copy of this book after watching numerous raving reviews about it on TikTok. On the cover, a review by Anna Banks states "we now have a Lady Jack Sparrow on our hands" and to be perfectly honest, it's the perfect description of Alosa. Alosa, 17 year old captain, and daughter of The Pirate King purposefully orchestrates her own kidnapping in order to find a map that leads to a hoard of Siren treasure. She's captured by the Night Farer's crew and has to secure her place on the ship as their prisoner all while secretly searching for the map. Along the way she develops a close relationship with the Night Farer's first mate, Riden. Between Riden's conflicted emotions, his need to protect his brutal brother and Captain, and Alosa's quick witt, sarcastic attitude and cunning behaviour the tension grows between them and blossoms into a fragile friendship. Friendship isn't the only thing on their minds though! It was a fantastic read and I'm so glad I caved and bought a copy. I can't wait to dive into Daughter Of The Siren Queen next and see what else the sea holds in store for Alosa and Riden. Their treasure hunt isn't over yet!

I genuinely didn’t want this story to end. I had to will myself to put it down and drag it out for as long as I could stand. This is the first book I’ve ever read about pirates, and now I want more. I love that the main character is a fierce, stubborn, arrogant, and skilled woman. Alosa is so funny, I was laughing out loud a lot throughout this book. Her attitude made this story all the more enjoyable. I loved Riden right from the very start. I really enjoyed the banter, among other things. *inserts winking emoji* I really liked the storyline, and how it was written. Some of the other characters really stood out to me too, like Enwen and Kearan. I’m really happy with how it all played out and I’m so excited to read on. I can’t wait to see what happens next. I need book 2 now! Below is just one of my favourite extracts, trust me, I have loads! ‘His philosophy is that if you have the power to do something, then you should do it.’ I'd also like to thank the lovely Danielle for talking me into reading this, it truly is a really enjoyable read that I'll happily reread a few times over.

I finished this book in two sittings, I absolutely loved it! The pace of the story line is very fast, everything mentioned in the blurb starts off in the first chapter, which I really enjoyed. There was no waffling in the book, it was very focused on the plot and plan. The setting was described very nicely and a map of the ship is provided which really helped with imagery. I knew what the author was describing and that allowed me to enjoy the book so much more! The writing is very basic and understandable, which I loved because I wasn't fumbling around trying to figure out how to pronounce a word or what a word meant, like some other books have made me do *cough, cough Eragon* The main characters are likeable. Alosa is admirable, her talent, skills and wit is everything throughout this novel. I loved her persona. Riden is equally fantastic- very skilled, intelligent and funny. They complemented each other from the very beginning. Their chemistry was on fire!!! They are very compatible. The story line followed through equally with their relationship, which was very refreshing to read. Usually, there is too much focus on the relationship and little on the plot or vice versa, but this book balanced both. Initially I thought this was a stand alone novel, but I was very excited to discover it's a duology. I have ordered the next book and I'm really excited to read it!! The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because there are a few occasions, I think three, where it gets very sexual and explicit. I DID NOT like that at all- I think it ruined the plot. I was not prepared for it at all, especially because I was under the impression that this novel is for a younger audience. I like a little PG chemistry here and there, but not sexual intimacy in a young adult novel, especially considering the characters are so young and they barely knew each other. The way it was portrayed was horrid as well, it was completely used as manipulation and in desperateness, which will give younger readers the wrong impression and ideas about intimacy. Apart from that criticism, I enjoyed the rest.

Idk..It was a decent read..I did finish it and I plan on reading the second one hopefully it's better..It was one thing after another never a dull moment which was good..i didn't like how the main character was so conflicted about everything!! Example: I love the sunny days but it's too damn bright and hot and makes me sweat but it's my favorite wheatear..lol everything she does she contradicts herself it was kinda frustrating.. And I didn't really care for any of the guys in the story sooo yea..I begrudgingly excepted a guy..I was like no not this guy he's to much of a player maybe the next guy nope, nope he's psycho oh new guy in the mix oh nope not that one either huh..oh it is this guy after all fine fine I guess that guy is fine.. Huh smh 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ Other than that it was an ok read.. Lol

YA'LL...THIS BOOK. I CAN'T. I'll be honest, I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did. I had a feeling that I would like it and it would be a fun ride, but it was so much more! Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller follows Captain Alosa Kalligan who is sent out on a mission by her father to be purposely kidnapped by the pirate crew, led by the cunning and ruthless Draxen, to recover a legendary hidden map leading to a magical island full of happiness and treasure. If you are looking for a fantasy that is entertaining and action-packed -- Daughter of the Pirate King is for you. Besides having an amazing main character, my favorite part of the book is the witty and sarcastically hilarious dialogue between the cast of characters, especially between Alosa and Riden, first mate and brother of Draxen. I'm a sucker for hate-to-love tropes and this one hits the nail on the head with it. The chemistry is perfect but the tension...oh my. I'm not sure how much I can describe how ridiculously awesome Alosa as a main character besides saying that I simply want to BE her. I love reading about feisty, in-charge women and Alosa was everything I could have asked for and more when it comes to empowering females. She is confident and smart and FIERCE. Ya'll think Celaena is the master of assassinating? Psh, she wouldn't stand a chance against Alosa were they to fight. DON'T @ ME. Also, the whole description of her being a female Jack Sparrow is completely false. SHE'S BETTER. Besides the fact that I'm obviously obsessed with the characters of the novel, can we talk about the writing for a second? Levenseller is so fluid with the dialogue but also the flow of the story was just so smooth. She is so sneaky when it comes to revealing plot twists. She tells you plain as day while you're reading but when it comes to the reveal, you act like a complete fool for not seeing it before. I don't know about you but I personally love that about novels. I love it when the author is constantly keeping me on my toes because it always make me want to come back for more. I could honestly keep going on and on about how in love I am with this book, but you need to find out for yourself. If it wasn't obvious before, I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who loves fast-paced, quick wit, packed with feisty and cute pirates, then PICK THIS UP. 5 stars I mean..who didn't see that coming?
