The Hawthorne Legacy (The Inheritance Games, 2)

OVER 1 MILLION COPIES SOLD OF THE #1 BESTSELLING SERIES!

Intrigue, riches, and romance abound in this thrilling sequel to the beloved bestselling The Inheritance Games

The Inheritance Games ended with a bombshell, and now heiress Avery Grambs has to pick up the pieces and find the man who might hold the answers to all of her questions-including why Tobias Hawthorne left his entire fortune to Avery, a virtual stranger, rather than to his own daughters or grandsons.

Thanks to a DNA test, Avery knows that she's not a Hawthorne by blood, but clues pile up hinting at a deeper connection to the family than she had ever imagined. As the mystery grows and the plot thickens, Grayson and Jameson, two of the enigmatic and magnetic Hawthorne grandsons, continue to pull Avery in different directions. And there are threats lurking around every corner, as adversaries emerge who will stop at nothing to see Avery out of the picture-by any means necessary.

With nonstop action, aspirational jet-setting, Knives Out-like family intrigue, swoonworthy romance, and billions of dollars hanging in the balance, The Hawthorne Legacy will thrill Jennifer Lynn Barnes fans and new readers alike.

I am just in awe. I have legitimately read everything Jennifer Lynn Barnes has written and I love all of the worlds that live in her, but this one might be my favorite. I love Avery and Jameson. I love Libby and Max. I think this story could go on for many books and I live for that possibility. If you love puzzles, intrigue, romance and really well developed characters with questionable motivations. If you love a whip smart, tough female protagonist. If you just love books, the Inheritance Games are a fully worthwhile read.

So, it was well worth the wait! One of my favorite things about a book is an actual ending, not some cliffhanger or something that makes you try and figure out on your own what happens. Yes, there could be more (and I would happily devour them) but I'm also left feeling satisfied with this ending. Honestly, I'm addicted to this duology and I sincerely hope there is many more to come and I am also looking forward to the TV series.

4.5 stars. The writing is so engaging. This series is a nonstop moving target of puzzles to solve with so many pieces, clues, secrets and twists. Between the mysteries to unravel, the likable characters with their complex relationships and surprises at every turn, it’s hard to put these books down. All of the drama and events that take place keeps Avery busy with her mind churning regarding all the possibilities and tracking down the answers. I'm excited to see what more awaits her in the conclusion.

*SPOILERS* I finished it in a weekend because I couldn’t put it down!! This book gave you answers from the first and the connections lead to people more than puzzles. A lot of questions were answered and Barnes did a good job bringing everything to a close. The love triangle is no more too. Avery chooses Jameson - you can clearly tell in the first book he sees her as a puzzle, but we see he falls in love with her and leaves it to her to choose who she wants. You can tell from the start that it was always going to be him and not Grayson. Overall, I am satisfied and enjoyed it. I’m going to look more into Barnes because her writing is that good!

THL picks up right where TIG leaves off which is nice. There isn't really much recapping that is needed. This book has even more plot twists than the first one so be ready for some whiplash. I laughed and cried and almost threw this book multiple times. I feel we get to see more of Xander, the youngest Hawthorne, more in this book and oof, my heart. He is by far my new favorite character. He is so adorable and just wants everyone to be happy and to solve all of the puzzles. Avery came into herself a bit more which was nice to read. She's starting to accept that this is her money and she can use it for the greater good of the game. The is she/isn't she game was done well in my opinion. I haven't really been a fan of that since a certain author overplayed it in a series (coughcassiclarecough) but this was nice. It wasn't stretched out too far. I felt this book was a tiny bit slower than the first one but maybe that was just my attention span at binging 2 books in 4 days which is out of the norm for me.
