Don't Let Them Bury My Story: The Oldest Living Survivor of the Tulsa Race Massacre In Her Own Words

"Every day, I have lived through the massacre. While our country may forget this history, I cannot." Viola Ford Fletcher

Viola Ford Fletcher's memoir Don't Let Them Bury My Story vividly recounts the lasting impact of the Tulsa Massacre on her life. As the oldest survivor and last living witness of the tragic events that unfolded in 1921, she shares her testimony with poignant clarity. From the terror of her childhood as a seven-year-old fleeing the burning streets of Greenwood to her current role as a 109-year-old family matriarch seeking justice for the affected families, Mother Fletcher takes us on a journey through a lifetime of pain and perseverance. Her inspiring story is a powerful reminder that some wounds never fully heal, and we must never forget the lessons of our history.

Viola Ford Fletcher’s book is simply her life story having very little to do with the Tulsa Massacre. When the massacre started her father put the family in a wagon and drove the horse to take them away from Tulsa as quickly as possible. The family ended up miles from Tulsa and Viola proceeds to tell us what happened with the rest of her life. If the reader is looking for information about the Tulsa Massacre, he/she will not find it here. The cover statement leads one to believe that the book will be about the massacre, but it is not; it is about the life of Viola Ford Fletcher after the massacre.
Great read and interesting article on the history of this family and others.

This autobiography was something I wanted to own and read firsthand from a survivor of an American terroristic attack own its own citizens. The fight for freedom and righteousness continues...

Excellent Book! This is a story that should not be hidden. It should be required reading in schools for ALL Americans. How wicked that these survivors and descendants never received justice.

This arrived in the mail today. I read cover to cover today and I cried for the life that was stolen from all these beautiful people. Read this book and understand the tragedy. Don’t let them ever do it again.
