Everyone Here Is Lying: A Novel
Another thrilling domestic suspense novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door
"The most addictive book I've read in ages-so slick and disquieting and clever. Just brilliant." -Lisa Jewell, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Family Remains
"Lapena is a master of manipulation." -USA Today
Welcome to Stanhope. A safe neighborhood. A place for families.
William Wooler is a family man, on the surface. But he's been having an affair, an affair that ended horribly this afternoon at a motel up the road. So when he returns to his house, devastated and angry, to find his difficult nine-year-old daughter, Avery, unexpectedly home from school, William loses his temper.
Hours later, Avery's family declares her missing.
Suddenly Stanhope doesn't feel so safe. And William isn't the only one on his street who's hiding a lie. As witnesses come forward with information that may or may not be true, Avery's neighbors become increasingly unhinged.
Who took Avery Wooler?
Nothing will prepare you for the truth.

I like the way Shari writes. No frills and long descriptions of what things look like or feel like. Just punchy paragraphs. Enjoyed the book, but didn't like the sudden ending. Not as gripping for me as Shari's earlier books.
Well after nearly 2 years waiting for another book written by Shari Lapena I eagerly pre ordered and devoured it nearly all in one sitting!! lots of twists and turns, keeps the reader wanting to know more and turning the page... however sadly the ending just didn't quite don't for me, I felt it came to a sudden stop. don't want to give too much away, however if your a fan of hers I'd still encourage you to read it!

I loved how this book had me completely hooked from page one. The only bit I wasn’t too keen in was the last page! But I don’t think this author does nice rounded endings, so should have guessed. I thought maybe for aged 9 the child in the book was a bit advanced for her years, but I went along with it as it was a good story! I’ve read other books by this author and I’ll read more. Recommend.

Hard to put this down! Dr. William Wooler has it all. He is a respected surgeon, good-looking, married to Erin and they have 2 children, Michael (12) & Avery (9). Avery has a personality disorder that controls the family leaving William frustrated. Nora Blanchard is a hospital volunteer, wife and mother. William & Nora begin a weekly affair and soon realize they want more. Nora suddenly breaks off their affair. Avery manipulates William then disappears leaving William trapped in a lie to hide their conflict and his affair. The trauma & investigation while two detectives lead the search to find Avery is very emotionally intense. The final outcome had me cheering for Casey the interviewer. Another great read from Shari Lapena. I volunteered to read an ARC through Net Galley.

Shari Lapena is one of my fave authors. I don't read the synopsis of Lapena's books before I dive into reading, as I like to be surprised. Everyone Here is Lying has just released and it was a surprise - a very good one! From the outside - a nice neighbourhood. From the inside, not so much.... Everyone Here is Lying opens with a bang. A nine year old girl goes missing - seemingly without a trace. The police start their investigation by interviewing family, then friends and then the neighbours. And...you guessed it, there's more than one liar. But everything is not revealed right away. Lapena slowly and deliciously discloses the secrets of the residents through their own thoughts and the police interviews. The two police are characters I would be happy to see again - especially Gully. The neighbours? Not so much. Lapena does a great job building the characters, giving them realistic emotions and actions. I have to say I was caught off guard with the unexpected development in part three. What a good twist! A few details ask the reader to suspend disbelief, which I happily did. If you like their psychology suspense and unreliable characters, you'll enjoy Everyone Here is Lying.
