Godaan

Five stars are not for the English version, but for the Hindi version, I read 15 years ago. One note of caution before reading this novel, Munshi Premchand's stories tend to be socialistic. He has been in the habit of mocking at every practice, institution or personality of Hinduism, and on the other hand praising the other ones. So in nutshell, it is his skill and art of storytelling that mesmerises. Small proverbs are heart touching. But the story compels disagreement.

Munshi Premchand was one of finest writer I Hindi literature . Godaan was and still is on of best novel of Hindi literature.

Munshi Premchand is one of the greatest writers India has ever seen, Godaan is another example of his genius...A side of India during freedom struggle, seldom spoken about.
