Hostage

"An utterly riveting read with so many jaw-dropping twists and turns you won't dare unfasten your seatbelt."―Lucy Foley

"Mackintosh is a pro...the final scene in the book almost made me sick as I read it. I mean that as a compliment of the highest order."―The New York Times

You can save hundreds of lives. Or the one that matters most...

From New York Times bestselling author Clare Mackintosh comes a claustrophobic thriller set over 20 hours on-board the inaugural nonstop flight from London to Sydney.

Mina is trying to focus on her job as a flight attendant, not the problems with her five-year-old daughter back home, or the fissures in her marriage. But the plane has barely taken off when Mina receives a chilling note from an anonymous passenger, someone intent on ensuring the plane never reaches its destination: "The following instructions will save your daughter's life..."

Someone needs Mina's assistance and knows exactly how to make her comply.

When one passenger is killed and then another, Mina knows she must act. But which lives does she save: Her passengers...or her own daughter and husband who are in grave distress back at home?

It's twenty hours to landing. A lot can happen in twenty hours.

For fans of the locked-room mystery of One by One and the heart-stopping tension The Last Flight, Hostage is an explosively addictive thriller about one flight attendant and the agonizing decision that will change her life―and the lives of everyone on-board―forever.

The book jacket reviews put pay to any surprise twists and I’m afraid I saw through this all the way. And I’m sorry but really you would have to be a very shallow person to allow this to happen. I’m pretty sure that there are other ways of alerting the crew and this scenario would be well rehearsed. I love Clare’s books and read it to the end but this was only because of loyalty to the writer. Clare I know that it is difficult to keep coming up with new plots and twists but please make your story believable I love your writing and want to be thrilled by your story.

Wow. Just wow. Normally I can be much more articulate with my reviews but gahhhhhhh. I am lost for words (my husband would be happy!) This book reads like a blockbuster movie. Unputdownable is not a word I use very often, but it sums up this book perfectly. Slow to start, but I absolutely devoured it; locking myself away from my family to finish it. I was equal parts eager to chew through it as quickly as possible, and conscious that I should savour every word of it because it's not very often that you get a read as delectable as this! Mina, Adam, and Sophia are well rounded characters who all developed as the story moved on, and as with any good book I grew to care about their ever after. But for me, the thing that clinched the 5* review, aside from the ups and downs, the well paced suspense, the nagging whodunnit, the burning desire for a favouable outcome, the mic drop of this entire ride was the epilogue. Wow. Just wow. Highly recommended, but please keep your seatbelt fastened... you're going to need it!

I was into this story from page 1. However it went a little weird after the landing. Sophia was scary little girl and I am glad I didn't know her. Ending was spine tingling. Wonder what she will get up to as an adult.
