Ignite Me (Shatter Me Book 3)

The heart-stopping third installment in the New York Times bestselling Shatter Me series, which Ransom Riggs, author of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and Hollow City, called "a thrilling, high-stakes saga of self-discovery and forbidden love."

With Omega Point destroyed, Juliette doesn't know if the rebels, her friends, or even Adam are alive. But that won't keep her from trying to take down The Reestablishment once and for all. Now she must rely on Warner, the handsome commander of Sector 45. The one person she never thought she could trust. The same person who saved her life. He promises to help Juliette master her powers and save their dying world . . . but that's not all he wants with her.

The Shatter Me series is perfect for fans who crave action-packed young adult novels with tantalizing romance like Divergent by Veronica Roth, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and Legend by Marie Lu. Tahereh Mafi has created a captivating and original story that combines the best of dystopian and paranormal and was praised by Publishers Weekly as "a gripping read from an author who's not afraid to take risks."

Don't miss Defy Me, the shocking fifth book in the Shatter Me series!

Plot: I completely inhaled read this book in 4 hours. It was fast-paced, crazy addictive and I could not put this down. I am officially Shatter Me TRASH. The character development, the relationships and THE FEELS. It was just so good, I can’t even comprehend it. This book picks up where Unravel Me left off, Juliette has been saved by Warner and taken back to the base. No one knows she’s alive and she has no idea what happened to anyone from Omega point. The story follows from there, Warner and Juliette have agreed to team up to take down his father and the Reestablishment. I did feel the ending was a tad rushed, a lot happened in the last 20% and it could’ve been stretched out a little bit more. The ending was decent but there was no full closure, I can see why some people would be disappointed but now there’s a spin-off trilogy! It was a good concluding novel, definitely my favourite in the trilogy I will definitely continue this series. I am excited to read Restore Me!

It’s been a long time since I felt this conflicted over a book. You can read the first 20 percent of this book and the last 15 percent and you pretty much learn everything you need to know about the plot. Not going to lie, I skimmed the middle section because there was so much back and forth between Warner, Adam and Juliette that I got bored. But I’m so torn because this book is so much more about emotional development than it is about plot development. You see every inch of the characters that the plot is more of a back drop. I know it’s set in a dystopian world but the characters don’t struggle for anything on the compound and there is a lot of talk of war and training but we don’t see the outer world to really care except for the last twenty or so pages when every unfolds very quickly. I feel like the characters make you want to keep reading rather than the plot.

This series started well, but has gone down the route of more and more people with 'special skills' and the main villain is not really the villain. Too long winded on the angst and the love story. All that flopping around =, if she was that badly affected, she would have been unapproachable/mentally unreachable. Needs to be stronger. Needs a good deal of tightening up. some inconsistency in time lines - 'war' has been built over 20 years - including the rebels - but the disintegration of society appears to only at times be within the heroines living memory which given she is 17, would make that 10 years or so. Am speed reading book 3 but will not be completing the series. disappointing as it progressed. tighten it up and complete in 2 -3 books and would have been great.

“His hands are holding my cheeks, and he pulls back just to look me in the eye and his chest is heaving and he says, “I think,” he says, “my heart is going to explode,” and I wish, more than ever, that I knew how to capture moments like these and revisit them forever. Because this. This is everything.” If I could say that Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi was absolutely marvelous and call it a review I would. But, that wouldn’t give me a chance to talk about how addicting it was, how many “feels” I got from my favorite ship of all time (which is now as some call it “canon” by the way) and how ridiculously mind-blowing and amazing Juliette’s character development was. For example: “For so many years I lived in constant terror of myself. Doubt had married my fear and moved into my mind, where it built castles and ruled kingdoms and reigned over me, bowing my will to its whispers until I was little more than an acquiescing peon, too terrified to disobey, too terrified to disagree. I had been shackled, a prisoner in my own mind. But finally, finally, I have learned to break free.” In Shatter Me we met this terrified broken girl. Who’s story was filled with strikethroughs. Now? No strikethroughs in site. Juliette is now the biggest badass ever, she’s confident, and, well, she’s kind of a leader of an army. And I loved every second of it. Her new demeanor is one of the driving forces behind the fact that I finished Ignite Me in a matter of hours (six to be exact) And then theres Warner of course. Excuse me while I turn into crazy, swooning fangirl. This guy was just one of the most fantastic male characters I have ever read about. I adore how he calls Juliette “love” and during “that” mind-blowing scene “sweetheart *goes off and dies* One of my favorite parts of Ignite Me was seeing how different Warner is in this novel compared to the first. This, is due mostly to the way Juliette perceives Warner. Her perspective suddenly shifts and it becomes obvious that Warner was always sweet adorable swoon worthy Warner, we were just never able to see it. As for Adam I felt as if his sudden character change was done to aid the plot in a way. Or perhaps he was always like that and, as I said before, we were just never able to see it. “I like the way I feel about myself when I’m with him.” I say quietly. “Warner thinks I’m strong and smart and capable and he actually values my opinion. He makes me feel like his equal–like I can accomplish just as much as he can, and more. And if I do something incredible, he’s not even surprised. He expects it. He doesn’t treat me like I’m some fragile little girl who needs to be protected all the time.” Overall, Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi contains awesomeness I cannot even begin to express. It was a fantastic start to 2014 and I find it hard to believe that another novel will be able to top it.

This book gave me the feels and I don’t know how my heart is ever going to recover from the series being over! I could read a hundred more books about these characters. I loved how far the characters came and was so happy with the series resolution. Juliette was such a different character in Ignite Me. After being shot, she’s like a phoenix reborn. She’s tough and independent and no longer afraid of the world. After all of the crying in the past two books, it was amazing to see her come into her own. Warner has intrigued me since the first book and his character arc has been incredible. He’s snarky and selfish and unapologetic about it. I loved that we got to see such a different side of Warner in Ignite Me. He was still sexy as hell, but I loved his child-like moments when readers got to see what a lifetime of abuse had done to him. Adam was unrecognizable in Ignite Me. Adam has been through a lot, but his actions were so unlike who I thought he was as a character. SPOILERS AHEAD Juliette was so right in her assumption that Adam needed her weak and dependent on him. The new Juliette in Ignite Me overshadowed Adam and she needed a strong equal like Warner. END OF SPOILERS Kenji had the best lines in the book as usual. It was great to see his friendship with Juliette blossom. I liked that Mafi decided to use his character as more than just comic relief. I know the series is over, but a girl can hope for a Kenji novella, right? The plot was fast-paced and I thought the book ended in a satisfying way. I’ve read a lot of end of trilogy books lately with awful endings and I was gleeful that this didn’t happen. No throwing my Kindle across the room and cursing the wasted time I spent invested in the series. If you haven’t picked up the series yet, it’s honestly a must read. I love Mafi’s gorgeous writing style and her ability to create dynamic and unforgettable characters. 5/5 Stars
