M Is for Mama: A Rebellion Against Mediocre Motherhood

Mama of ten Abbie Halberstadt helps women humbly and gracefully rise to the high calling of motherhood without settling for mediocrity or losing their minds in the process.

Motherhood is a challenge. Unfortunately, our worldly culture offers moms little in the way of real help. Mamas only connect to celebrate surviving another day and to share in their misery rather than rejoice in what God has done and to build each other up in hard times. There has a be a better way, a biblical way, for mamas to grow and thrive.

As a daughter of Christ, you have been called to be more than an average mama. Attaining excellence doesn't have to be unsettling but it will take committed focus and a desire to parent well according to God's grace and for His glory.

M is for Mama offers advice, encouragement, and scripturally sound strategies seasoned with a little bit of humor to help you embrace the challenge of biblical motherhood and raise your children with love and wisdom.

Mama, you are worthy of the awesome responsibility God has given you. Now it's time to start believing you can live up to it.

In M Is for Mama, author Abbie Halberstadt gives readers a fly-on-the-wall view of life in a large, loving family. She knows firsthand what a sanctifying challenge motherhood can be, yet she embraces it for the high calling it is and urges other mamas to do the same. Her writing is packed with practical wisdom, heartfelt encouragement, and an unapologetic commitment to the truth of God's Word. Abbie's book not only makes me long to be a more excellent mother myself but also assures me that by God's grace, such excellence is possible.

Abbie is a needed and powerful voice for this generation of mothers. In a world that often considers motherhood burdensome, she reminds us of the blessing in even the mundane and the ordinary. No matter the ages of your children, Abbie will inspire you to parent with conviction, compassion, and courage.
-Katie Majors, New York Times bestselling author of Kisses from Katie and Daring to Hope

Abbie's book reads like a motivating conversation with a trusted mentor and friend. She speaks on a subject that has been dangerously glorified-mediocre motherhood-and uses biblical truths to encourage Christlike motherhood instead. I love how she gives practical advice and action steps while also keeping it real. What a refreshing read!

I am so grateful for Abbi following the Lord’s instructions to write this book. This book it’s convicting while also so encouraging. The action steps at the end of each chapter are my favorite part. I love being able to tangibly work on ideas talked about in each chapter. Parenting books are not my favorite because I don’t believe a lot of them lead you back to Christ but this one DOES! Each issue faced leads your right back to what the Lord has to say! As for the flow of the book, I am no English major, but I believe it flows so well. With my reading skills, which are there but not the best, I had no issues with this book! I could read it while still wrangling children and not feel completely lost! This will be a book I re read each year!

I’ve been following Abbie on IG for a few months, and I wasn’t even planning to read the book. But after a few months, I enjoyed Abbie’s content so much that I was curious to read the book and wanted to support her efforts. This book has blown me away! I have been miserable in the current culture of motherhood, and it’s incredibly refreshing and convicting to know how different it can be. Abbie offers not only sound biblical advice with scripture to back it up, but she also offers practical examples from her own motherhood. My absolute favorite part of the book is the summary and thought-provoking questions and prayer at the end of each chapter.

If I could sum up one word from “M is for Mama” book by Abbie it would be the word “Substantial”. Every chapter has considerable amount of resources for motherhood and points us directly towards God’s word. If your looking for clarity to know the difference between mediocre and Christlike motherhood this book will grasp you further into knowing the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit more personally through the word of God. Any struggle or question you have ever had in motherhood will discern you into going to your Bible and finding the answer! It truly will give you the inspiration to tackle those things that may have already been on your heart. It definitely has for me. My favorite part of the book is at the end of each chapter she breaks it down into a narrative, action steps, questions to ask yourselves, and a prayer! It’s all laid out for you so you can come back and dig even deeper to memorize and meditate scripture and maybe turn it into a study with others. “M is for Mama” is one of a kind and Abbie draws you in with her writing style. I really chuckled on some parts! Go grab yourself a copy of her book. It really is substantial!

As a first time mother in a world of snarky memes and videos about what motherhood is like (coming from both Christian and non-Christian mothers), this book is a breath of fresh air. With relatable frankness Abbie urges the reader to strive for more than mediocrity and to live out Biblical motherhood instead. With fun artwork, practical application and even prayers this book should be on every Christian mama's bookshelf! Whether you are a new mom or a little seasoned you can glean something from this book!

This book has been one of the only Christian non-fiction books that I have actually been able to finish, let alone finish in a mere five days. During that time the Lord just really did a work in me. I’ve been challenged in my way of thinking and approach to motherhood, I’ve been challenged in my faith, and I’ve been challenged in who I think I am vs. who God has called me to be! Abbie relies HEAVILY on scripture and scriptural truths. This book truly is for any mama at any point in her faith relationship, you just need to be willing to let God convict and truly humble you. I’ve already ordered two more copies for friends, and I truly hope to see this book spark a change in how we approach motherhood!
