A beautifully made cookbook! The chocolate chip cookies are by far my favorite recipe I've ever made! Yes, she does make use of "shortcut" ingredients (cream of chicken soup and store-bought crescent roll dough in the chicken pot pie recipe, for example), but I enjoy that it's a book catered to the mom that wants to make food at home for her family, but doesn't miss out on the togetherness for the sake of making everything from scratch. I can use some of these recipes and take the long way and make them my own less the more processed ingredients. If I am in a pinch or want a faster meal, I know that it will taste yummy as written too! I also really love that the book is designed beautifully. No annoying jacket on the cover. They still include your typical cookbook cover photo, but the black fabric spine that extends into the cover makes the book look beautiful standing on a shelf!

Great book, new recipes some ingredients are USA based but otherwise real recipes with an American/Mexican base.

Love the simplicity of many of these recipes. I have made a few of the recipes when I've had friends round and all of them have been a hit and completely delicious. Hope there's another recipe book coming soon!

I bought this cookbook based on the excellent reviews. And it is a beautiful book, filled with lots of tasty sounding recipes. But several recipes use condensed canned soup and a few others use Uncle Ben’s wild rice blend, complete with the packaged seasoning. There’s even mention of a tube of crescent rolls. Really? Over-processed, packaged ingredients? Ugh. That’s a real disappointment. I gave the book three stars because there are lots of other recipe that don’t include processed, packaged ingredients. But I was really looking forward to trying the chicken pot pie only to find it’s just vegetables in canned cream of chicken soup topped with a roll of pillsbury crescents. Update: I've revised my rating down to 1 star. Velveeta? Really? And fatayer made with hash browns and cheese...and wrapped in canned biscuits? For the life of me, I cannot fathom how this cookbook gets the raving reviews it does. They are not deserved.

I've used this cookbook for a couple of months now and while I really like it, I have some issues with it as well. The book itself, while beautiful, is not practical for cooking. It does not lay flat and since it's so large I have to place something heavy on it to keep it open. Not very practical. The first week I had it, I was so excited to try the new recipes, I planned our entire week of meals from this cookbook. However, by the end of the week I was abandoning my plans. Lots of recipes are processed food heavy, include things like heavy cream, cheese, cream cheese... all the cream and all the cheese. I even cut the butter amount in half for one recipe (Baked Chicken with Bacon Bottom & Wild Rice) and I still felt like it was swimming in oil when it was done. I'm fine with these kinds of ingredients sparingly, but after a week of eating these meals we were not feeling so great. So I use Magnolia Table for occasional meals, but I'm bummed I don't feel good about making lots of these meals like I thought I would.
