Whole Food For Your Family: 100+ Simple, Budget-Friendly Meals

Over 100 budget- and family-friendly recipes from Whole30 Coach and creator of the popular cooking website Whole Food for 7, Autumn Michaelis. This inspired collection is dairy-free, gluten-free, and fully endorsed by Whole30!

Changing the way your family eats can feel intimidating, but once Autumn Michaelis experienced the incredible benefits of the Whole30 and cut gluten, dairy, and refined sugar out of her life, she knew she had to bring her family on board. As a busy mother of 5-yes, 5-growing boys, she needed recipes that were tasty and easy. So she started the website Whole Food for 7, where she shares no-fuss, gluten- and dairy-free family meals that are delicious and nutritious.

In her first cookbook, she serves up winning breakfasts like Crispy Waffles, lunch box essentials like Paleo Vanilla Wafers and Granola Bars, healthy remakes of kid favorites like Plantain Pizza Pockets and Our Favorite Chicken Strips, along with plenty of desserts like Churro Bites and Oreo Brownie Cheesecake. Kid-friendly, but not just for kids, this book is packed with comfort food favorites as well as  time-saving hacks, and budget-friendly tips. These recipes are for real life. We have three kids who are involved with sports so quick/easy dinners are a necessity in my house. And while I try to eat healthy, my husband is definitely more about taste than health ;) I did have to shop for the flours because we're not a paleo/gluten-free/whole 30 household, but everything else I had on hand which was really nice. Thanks to this cookbook I have snuck veggies into a smoothie that my kids absolutely loved. My husband ate dairy free, gluten free Chicken Fried Steak and LOVED it. And right now my kids are enjoying the hashbrown/caulifower waffles for breakfast. This book gives me the hope that I really CAN transition my family to a healthier way of eating without having to sacrifice taste, time, and money. I am SO excited to keep discovering some new family favorites!

I would give this cookbook 10 stars if I could. I sat in a coffee shop last night and read this cover to cover. When I got home, I handed it to my husband and asked him to look through it. He did, and immediately was so excited for our September whole30. I have done many whole30 s before, but they haven’t really stuck until I did a whole60 in early 2018. I ate mostly paleo after that, and felt amazing. And then the pandemic hit, I had health issues, I had a hard pregnancy, and an even harder postpartum. And suddenly 2.5 years went by of just eating to survive and to cope. I was back to having headaches, being tired all the time, dealing with random health issues, and being heavier than I ever have been. So when we committed to spending the fall doing w30, we were less than thrilled, but we knew we needed to make the change. And then our baby was diagnosed with food allergies that lit a fire under us. So we completely cleared out the fridge and pantry, bought w30 sauces and condiments along with this book, and spent many hours talking about how this needs to be a lifestyle change. When I read Autumn’s own words and story in the beginning of the cookbook, I felt so empowered to do this thing. I am so thankful for everyone who has gone before, especially those on a budget and with kids. Get this book. The recipes are delightful, easy to follow directions, and easy/not expensive ingredients to source. This is golden.

Might seem like a rant .... so here goes! Ive followed autumn of insta for a few good years. her blog has amazing recipes. this book is everything! She has so thoughtfully created additional tidbits throughout the book that puts this over the top! Ive got quite a collection if cookbooks and i like this one the best so far. Heres why: she has substitutions written per recipe (example if you are nut free she tells you how to create the recipe without it) She has, per every recipe, how to make it into a full meal by telling you which other recipes it pairs with (with quick page numbers). Talk about time saving and eastly meal planning!!! The top of each recipe tells you at a quick glance if its w30, nut, free, egg free or freezer friendly etc. (and tells you how to prepare it that way or a different way depending on your specific diet restrictions). She has pictures of every recipe so you can see how it looks! You can tell that shes added so much detail and has poured so much time into this cookbook. The recipes all look wonderful and certainly look child friendly. and I love that shes also included recipes that serve for after w30, like paleo ice cream, brownies, cookies. Im excited to dive in a make some extra of the recipes to have on hand for me to stash in the freezer for quick healthy meals for my kiddos. This is a beautiful book and is not just for whole30--its a book for beyond w30 and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. She has excellent recipes included so that you can recreate expensive w30 or paleo staples so that you arent breaking the bank (like mayonaise, chicken apple sausage, sugar free breakfast sausage grain free tortillas etc -- these items are not only hard to comeby at times but are also expensive--especially in todays economy) Please by this book if you are looking for easy ways to feed a full meal to your family and not break the bank. I cannot recommend this book enough!
