Over Her Dead Body (Defenders of Battle Mountain, 5)

I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Over Her Dead Body . Isla Vachs lost her husband over a year ago . She went from a EMT to a Reserve Officer for Battle Mountain so she could protect her self and her daughter . Isla was shot two months ago outside the Fire station they have never found who the shooter was . As Isla leaves the town Hall meeting at the rec center she hears the sound of a fired bullet and being tackled to the parking lot . Adan Sergeant tackled Isla to protect her from the sniper who is gunning for her . He promised Clint his best friend as he died in his arms he would protect her and her daughter Mazi . Together they must work to stop the gang responsible and survive not as easy as it looks . This story is outstanding and Suspenseful full of action and intrigue . I highly recommend taking the time to read .

This captivating mystery focuses on ex-soldier Adan and his best friend’s wife, Isla. Adan, a former soldier, has chosen to watch over his best friend’s wife and their child, as he promised he would, as his friend took his last breath. Meanwhile, Isla, a cop, has been in the cross hairs of a sniper, and has escaped, so far. The town of Battle Mountain has suffered so much turmoil in the past year, including serial killers, arsonist burning downtown and people shot. The town is putting pressure on the city council and mayor on their plans to bring the city back to the tourist mecca it used to be. While the mayor works on his plan, the police department has lost some credibility. After another shooting, Aidan and Isla pair up to investigate leading them into a complex web of deceit, secrets, betrayals and murder. This is a great action, dramatic story with plenty of twists and turns. This author sucks you right into the story and gets your heart pounding.There’s an abundance of well-illustrated scenes that make you feel like you are right there in the story, and that’s something I really look for in a great book. I received a complimentary ARC, but I am voluntarily offering my personal opinion.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "OVER HER DEAD BODY" WOW!!! This story has a bit of everything that has you turning the pages to see what's going to happen full of suspense, intrigue, danger, angst, emotional turmoil, loss, guilt, secrets, lies, betrayal, deceit, corruption, twists that's keeps you glued up seat till the end. Isla Vach is a Reserve Officer in the Battle Mountain PD the town has gone through so much lately, serial killers, bomb threats, Chief Weston Ford knows the public is scared at what's been happening & they want answers with Mayor Wayne Higgins thinking this was great for his champagne, he'd replace the Police Force & make the public safe again. Adan Sergeant made a promise to his BF Clint who was Isla's husband who had been killed, to watch over her & her daughter Mazi, he'd always been in love with her even before Clint & Isla got together, when a sniper takes a shot at Isla he's knows she's in danger & has to protect her whether she likes it or not. I definitely recommend to get this riviting story you can't put down Isla doesn't make it easy for Adan to protect her she so stubborn & will do anything to protect her daughter at all cost even putting herself in the snipers sights, will they figure out who it is, will Isla & Adan get a HEA, its a must read you don't want miss. I love this series & I'm so looking forward to the next book "DEAD AGAIN" it can't come soon enough.

There was a question that kept cropping up for me and of course the people in the story. How in the world was the assassin picking their victims. They seem so totally unrelated. And the biggest question is why Isla? The relationship between Mazi and Adan really was special and I liked that. The relationship between Isa and Adan was dicey. Emotional and filled with angst and some guilt on both of their parts. Most of that guilt coming from Clint's death and some how they each feel like they failed him. Of course, it didn't help that Clint was keeping a lot of secrets from them. I also liked the how the fellow officers in the community had each others back and were such a family. The mayor however you can keep him. That political poser. He causes a lot of trouble. Several times I just wanted to shake Isla until her teeth rattled. She let her emotions rile her and she stomps out into the open. It's like she totally forgot that someone wants to kill her. And her behavior is something that puts other people in danger as well. Speaking of danger there will be PLENTY of that. A lot of UNPREDICTABLE danger, which really kept the story jumping. I just never knew what was going to happen next. The ending was just as intense as the story has been all along. But it has a good ending and even better beginning “I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. I totally enjoyed this book. Non stop action and suspense and a story that pulls at the heart strings for sure. Adan is an ex soldier who is watching over his deceased friends wife Isla. I totally fell in love with Adan for sure. This story will really pull you in. If you enjoy romantic suspense, then this is a must read for sure. I received an ARC copy.
