The Coast-to-Coast Murders

A detective and an FBI agent join forces on what seems like an open-and-shut case-but a new rash of killings sends them on a pulse-pounding race against time in this intense thriller.

Michael and Megan Fitzgerald are siblings who share a terrifying past. Both adopted, and now grown-Michael is a long-haul truck driver, Megan a college student majoring in psychology-they trust each other before anyone else. They've had to. Their parents are public intellectuals, an Ivy League clinical psychologist and a renowned psychiatrist, and they brought up their adopted children in a rarefied, experimental environment. It sheltered them from the world's harsh realities, but it also forced secrets upon them, secrets they keep at all costs.

In Los Angeles, Detective Garrett Dobbs and FBI Agent Jessica Gimble have joined forces to work a murder that seems like a dead cinch. Their chief suspect is quickly identified and apprehended-but then there's another killing just like the one they've been investigating. And another. And not just in Los Angeles-the spree spreads across the country. The Fitzgerald family comes to the investigators' attention, but Dobbs and Gimble are at a loss-if one of the four is involved, which Fitzgerald might it be?

From coastal California to upstate New York, Dobbs and Gimble race against time and across state lines to stop an ingenious and deeply deranged killer-one whose dark and twisted appetites put them outside the range of logic or experience.

Wonderful! Edgy. Got a little confusing and into the weeds for a while there, but there was a big payoff! More please!

I liked this story. It was interesting and the plot was engaging. The characters were well-rounded. I did find the ending a bit confusing, but the story involved a serial killer and a mystery so I liked it regardless.

I think I want this to be a series. I wasn't so sure about the collaboration of authors, but I am pleasantly surprised at how well these two wrote together. If you follow my reviews, you know I'm a big Barker fan. I guess teaming up with Patterson could really only be a win. This book snags you from the first page. While it does go a little slow in the beginning, there is enough mystery to keep the reader compelled to see what will happen when things start to heat up. And they do heat up. Let me point out that this book is told in multiple point of views. For those of you who aren't fans of multiple point of views, don't count this book out. This story can only be told that way. And it flows very well. The point of views will mess with your head and will keep you guessing. I couldn't get enough of each chapter. I will say, I teetered back and forth on what I thought the ending would be. The actual ending did cross my mind from the beginning. I did change it multiple times, but I kept going back to the who every now and then. Overall, I highly recommend this book. Especially if you're already a Patterson fan. You will enjoy his collaboration with Barker. I hope Barker finds some new readers with this book.

Michael, Mitchell, Megan. An experiment gone horribly wrong. This one requires complete concentration. Yet you may, as a reader, be left confused. So many deaths. Who actually died? This is clearly a psychological thriller and may still not be unraveled. Not my favorite of Mr. Patterson’s books, and the ending leaves a bit to be desired.

This book is full of twists and turns and when you think you have it all figured out you don’t. Typically that would be great but I found this too have too many turns without proper answers. The end gives you absolutely no closure. It’s a fascinating read but leaves too much unanswered.
