Dr. B has introduced me to the plant based world with his first book, Fiber Fueled. This cookbook is next level to that with information, recipes with pictures to help guide you along the way. Since, I’ve gone more plant based, I no longer experience a food comma. My food gives me energy and I feel great!

The recipes are tasty, pretty easy to make and I am excited about all of them. But, I thought it would be filled with recipes- like a lot. It’s a couple repeat recipes from the fiber fueled book- and quite a few new ones. However- I did his online course already that was already $35, and the book is that same education. I would have liked to just pay for the cook book instead of paying over double? I was under the impression this book would be all recipes. And at this point- I really don’t need more why eat plant based- I get it it works, I’m in remission for my ibd- I just want lots of tasty gut healthy recipes!

Every recipe I've made so far has been a keeper, love this hands on follow up to Dr. B's first insightful book Fiber Fueled. This book has everything you've ever needed to know about dietary sensitivities, but even if that's not your problem it's a great resource for simple, clean, vegan eating for longevity!

This book has 11 main chapters, with a total of about 354 pages. At the end of the book there are a few Appendices, which list some food substitutions, foods to avoid during a histamine restriction phase, and additional resources. The first thing to point out is that this book is about half instruction manual/educational book, and half cookbook with recipes. In fact, the recipes don't even start until about 60 pages in, at the end of Chapter 4. In the first few chapters, Dr. Bulsiewicz discusses the importance of fiber in your diet. He explains the functions of the microbiome and short-chain fatty acids, and the health benefits of increasing fiber consumption. Dr. Bulsiewicz then explains his GROWTH strategy: Genesis, Restrict, Observe, Work it back in, Train your gut, Holistic healing. This method is designed to identify possible food intolerances, so you can pinpoint which foods are causing you issues. He then goes over a few common gastrointestinal issues, before getting into the recipes. The recipes are added in at the end of chapters, so Chapter 4 has Low FODMAP recipes at the end, while Chapter 5 has Low Histamine recipes. Chapter 9 – Fiber Fueled Unleashed has dozens of high fiber recipes at the end, while Chapter 10 has several fermentation recipes. This format really encourages you to read the text first before trying out these various related recipes. All in all, this is a decent cookbook/fiber guide. I would've preferred a few more pictures of the food, and I also wish there was nutritional information with each recipe. I'm also not the biggest fan of the organization structure of the book, but I can see why it was designed this way to encourage reading the text and not just diving into the recipes. Other than that though, the recipes seem good, and there are some creative ideas here that I can't wait to try. The information in the first few chapters is helpful; and even if you you don't love all of the recipes, it might still be worth reading to learn a little bit more about the importance of fiber in your diet.
