The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England (Secret Projects)
#1 New York Times Bestselling author Brandon Sanderson meshes Jason Bourne and epic fantasy in this captivating adventure that throws an amnesiac wizard into time travel shenanigans―where his only hope of survival lies in recovering his missing memories.
A man awakes in a clearing in what appears to be medieval England with no memory of who he is, where he came from, or why he is there. Chased by a group from his own time, his sole hope for survival lies in regaining his missing memories, making allies among the locals, and perhaps even trusting in their superstitious boasts. His only help from the "real world" should have been a guidebook entitled The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England, except his copy exploded during transit. The few fragments he managed to save provide clues to his situation, but can he figure them out in time to survive?

Brandon Sanderson is pure genius when it comes to character and works building. His characters are so full of life and personality they become real to the reader. The places his characters live detailed in black and white become 3d in the readers imagination. His worlds become places the reader enjoys visiting; the characters ( the good guys not the bad guys ) become good friends. The story takes on a life of it's own. No longer just words written on a page on a book but an adventure shared with friends making these wonderful, magical places even better by helping dissolve the bad guys. The reader feels like they are actually there with real people. We get to laugh at and with them. We feel there pain and frustrations. This it's the magic of Brandon Sanderson story telling ability. Thank you Mr Sanderson for another wonderful book. You never disappoint!

Brandon Sanderson is one of the most talented Sci Fi/Fantasy writers I’ve ever read (and I’ve read a lot of them). Whether it’s a stand alone story like this or a work inside the Cosmere, it’s always well written, always worth reading.

Sanderson weaves a wonderful story with mystery, adventure, technology, and magic. It's a story of personal discovery for both humans and gods. Along the way you find yourself rooting for a very unlikely hero.

I've thought a bit about if this book deserves 4 or 5 stars and I settled on 4. The artwork and little story in the fringes was fun, 5/5. The last 30-35% of the book was good to very good. But the majority of the book was honestly hard for me to push through. I love Brandons books, even the ones for younger readers. This character and story needed a longer book. The world building is honestly not explained well until the end, and the character's sorta stink until then as well. I would have really liked to see it more fleshed out in a longer book or full series, BUT I understand that isn't how this project works. This book is the equivalent to a 40 ounce beverage, you read the first half to get to the second half.

This was pretty funny. It was like a satire of Game of Thrones and Jason Bourne all in one. John had a good arc, but kind of like Tress — his conflict was all too easily resolved. I wish Sanderson would make things a little harder on his protagonists, but this was still so silly and cringe funny. It was like reading erotica but without the sex. Haha. I liked it a lot.
