The Ink Black Heart: A Cormoran Strike Novel
· INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER ·
The latest installment in the highly acclaimed, internationally bestselling Strike series finds Cormoran and Robin ensnared in another winding, wicked case.
When frantic, disheveled Edie Ledwell appears in the office begging to speak to her, private detective Robin Ellacott doesn't know quite what to make of the situation. The cocreator of a popular cartoon, The Ink Black Heart, Edie is being persecuted by a mysterious online figure who goes by the pseudonym of Anomie. Edie is desperate to uncover Anomie's true identity.
Robin decides that the agency can't help with this-and thinks nothing more of it until a few days later, when she reads the shocking news that Edie has been tasered and then murdered in Highgate Cemetery, the location of The Ink Black Heart.
Robin and her business partner, Cormoran Strike, become drawn into the quest to uncover Anomie's true identity. But with a complex web of online aliases, business interests and family conflicts to navigate, Strike and Robin find themselves embroiled in a case that stretches their powers of deduction to the limits – and which threatens them in new and horrifying ways . . .
A gripping, fiendishly clever mystery, The Ink Black Heart is a true tour-de-force.

Editorial Reviews
"The sixth and most complex novel yet in a unique series. . . The author does a masterly job of keeping all plot elements in play and in balance, and the complications only add to the satisfaction of the mystery's eventual solution."―Tom Nolan, The Wall Street Journal

I was so excited to get Robert Galbraith's latest Cornoran Strike book. I am 5% into it, but the book is unreadable on my Kindle Paperwhite. There are pages and pages of texts which I presume are photographed rather than written as part of the text. They are tiny. I can't cope. I am a Kindle reader because arthritis means that I can't hold a hardback book or a paperback comfortably or easily - and this is a big book at 1200 pages. Please, please, please provide a fully text based version.

First and foremost the book is brilliant. I am thoroughly enjoying it and it’s wonderful to be back in the company of Robin and Strike. My issue is that these reviews are surely meant to be about the quality of the text written not an opportunity to point out errors with formatting on a kindle? I think this needs to be looked into as it can be deceiving to a prospective buyer and unfair to the author.

I am a HUGE fan of the Cormoran Strike series so I preordered this book. It is a lengthy one, and heavy. What I did not like: the in-game chats and the tweets. They are divided in columns and you have to got through multiple pages to read the entire thread. They definitely gave insight, though. What I did like: delving more into Strike's past and the evolving relationship between him and Robin. The reader is able to learn more about Strike and how his past has shaped him. I felt there were many insights as to whether or not he and Robin would be able to be in a relationship. And there were many characters to keep track of in this one, due to the game and chat boards and such. It was a bit tricky to keep them all straight at first. Overall, not my favorite Strike novel but it is a worthy addition to the series and worth reading if you are a Strike fan.

These characters are so fresh and amazing! Love the story and the journey of the mystery. The story itself is 5 stars… but the difficulty in getting to the legible portions of the chat room script is ridiculous so I bumped it to 4. But truly… the publisher should be ashamed. You can’t have multiple columns in digital content… some explanation in the front of the book telling me your showing me the same words multiple times because it may not be readable is ridiculous. You know what our eReaders can handle… there was nothing wrong with reading one column at a time… fix it so you don’t ruin a wonderful story simply because you couldn’t format the book.

JK Rowling, aka Robert Galbraith, is a writer’s writer. She infuses her characters with humor and compassion, fully fleshing out each. This book kept me guessing throughout, and—no spoilers—my early conclusion was deliciously wrong. I had no idea who the killer was, despite beautifully-crafted teases here and there that keep the reader on tenterhooks. Rowling has said something very important in this book, both between the lines and boldly stated, about the potential for evil, violence, misunderstanding, bullying, and worse created by social media, in all its iterations. This isn’t the place for further debate or comment on this subject, but Rowling makes her point, and does so with dignity and subtlety. I adore the Strike series and cannot wait for the next book.
