The Luckiest Snowball

"Help! I'm melting!" A boy rescues a snowball again and again in this funny story about a snowball that gets to see all four seasons.

A boy makes a snowball and is about to throw it when he hears "Stop! . . . Let's do something else." So the boy and the snowball make a snow angel, build a snow fort, and make a snowman instead. The boy decides to take the snowball home.

When the snowball starts to melt, the boy rescues it by putting it in the freezer, where the snowball meets some very nice frozen foods and a tray of ice cubes too. The snowball meets flowers and butterflies in spring, sea and sand in summer, and apples and colorful leaves in fall.

With a bright, glittery cover and bold illustrations, The Luckiest Snowball is a great read-aloud to share. Children will enjoy shouting along with the snowball's refrain-- "Help! I'm melting!"

There is back matter about the seasons and the three states of water.

"The unlikely character of the snowball displays some hilarious expressions as he faces temperature changes, and the outdoor scenes of the boy, dog, and snowball playing together are charming. . . . Several concluding pages offer basic information and discussion questions on the seasons and on water changing from a solid to a liquid state" -Kirkus Reviews

"Izzy is just about to throw a snowball when it suddenly pipes up: 'WAIT! STOP! . . . If you throw me-BLAM!- it's the end of me.' So begins Larry the snowball's yearlong odyssey. . . .  Kreloff illustrates this tale with digital collages that evoke the mixed textures of traditional cut-paper assemblages and capture the nuances of snowball personality. Readers may want to make room in their freezers for Larrys of their own."-Publishers Weekly

I loved this book so much. It is a heartwarming story and the illustrations are beautiful. I loved it so much I bought and sent to my 2 year old nephew and a family of 3 children ages 4- 8.

This was a wonderfully illustrated story for children and adults alike. Developing a friendship while living through the seasons of life then knowing when it’s time , and ok, to say goodbye in the end. What a wonderful way to envelop a child’s imagination while teaching them a lesson too.

Larry, the snowball, is force to be reckoned with. Not only does he survive all four seasons, but has adorable expressions and positive attitude pull him through. Loved all the fun science facts! My great nephew is going to love it.

I’m a kindergarten teacher. I love the seasons and how they are represented in the freezer! I also bought copies for my grandchildren and they loved it just as much as my class!

Illustrations are neat in this book. I've seen this style before and I like it as a change from others. The story makes you feel a bit sad for the snowball in the freezer. Everything else in the freezer comes and goes. The snowball waiting for season's to change in the freezer, brings stress to the story. But the author mellows it out some. The ending is predictable.
