This is an awesome book. Not so much a recipe book, though it does have recipes. It's a teaching book, it teaches you how to do basic things in the kitchen that grandmothers used to teach all who wanted to learn. We must have run out of grandmothers because so many don't know how do make basic, healthy foods. Bone broth. Yogurt. Kiefer. Sprouting grains. Grinding flour. It's all right here and if you need extra help, she has a you tube channel you can watch to get a "live action" lesson. Simply a MUST in every kitchen that cares about feeding your family healthy, wholesome food.

A must buy for anyone wanting to reduce food waste (and grocery bills) while providing delicious and nutritious meals. I ordered the hardback book. It is a beautifully designed book. The photos (and there are so many photos) are high quality with great color on glossy pages. But, it's not just a pretty book for the shelf, the content does not disappoint. It is well organized by chapters and each of the recipes are clear and thoroughly explained. If this is the only book you have in your kitchen, it will provide you with all the basics you need to know to begin your journey on a running a traditional kitchen using simple, whole ingredients.

I just received my copy of this book, and I am very impressed! It is going to be such a useful tool in feeding my family and friends. It is indeed a beautiful book, with plenty of colorful pictures. But it's more than just a picture book, or even just a cookbook. It gives you background for each type of food, and reasons you should incorporate them into your family's diet. The instructions are detailed and very helpful. I made the Herbed Kippers and Rice on page 203. It was very delicious, and easily made. My husband loved it! I have leafed through the book, and I can already tell it's going to be a go-to book for me in the kitchen.

I love, love, love The Modern Pioneer Cookbook! I was extremely impressed with the high quality, recipes and photos! I am assembling my ingredients to make my first recipe, chicken bone broth. Mary Bryant Shafer is a MASTER when it comes to helping you assemble an easy, Traditional Foods Kitchen and bringing you easy to follow instructions. I've been following her on her YouTube channel Mary's Nest and she is amazing! I preordered her book shortly after she announced it was coming out. I know it will be a bestseller! And I can feel confident that once you have tried her recipes from her book you will agree! I wish Mary much success in the coming years and personally I am already looking forward to her NEXT book! Encouragement & Enlightenment from cooking techniques to nutrition and it is all rolled into this book. This is a must have kitchen counter reference. The actual book has thick pages and a sturdy cover that easily stays open to reference while cooking. I cannot recommend this book more highly for new cooks just starting out or anyone looking to discover a new (or rekindled) relationship with your kitchen and food preparation. Mary has a unique way of encouraging you to try new adventures in your kitchen with her stories, traditional techniques and tips. Best of all she is conscientious about costs and affordability so trying something new is easily doable following her guidance. Just try one of her recipes and you will find the joy of creating nutritional foods as a Modern Pioneer. My photo with her book shows just a few items in the background of what Mary has encouraged me to make. I am having more fun than ever bringing new adventures to my old pots, pans and utensils.
