The Noise: A Thriller
In this cinematic thriller set in the Pacific Northwest, two sisters fight for survival after a natural disaster.
In the shadow of Mount Hood, sixteen-year-old Tennant is checking rabbit traps with her eight-year-old sister Sophie when the girls are suddenly overcome by a strange vibration rising out of the forest, building in intensity until it sounds like a deafening crescendo of screams. From out of nowhere, their father sweeps them up and drops them through a trapdoor into a storm cellar. But the sound only gets worse . . .

Editorial Reviews
"A really entertaining thriller . . like Michael Crichton (who might have written something very like this), Patterson and Barker keep ratcheting up the suspense and the sense of impending doom, until, by the end, we wish we could read faster just so we can find out what happens next."―Booklist

Can anyone explain the ending of this book? Someone once said:” if the beginning and the ending of a novel are good, everything boring in between can be forgiven and eventually forgotten.“ I sincerely hate to write a negative review but I have to say after a strong beginning followed by repetitive story lines was an ending that completely baffled me! I reread it three times and still cannot figure out what the heck it all meant. I can usually forgive a novel that’s boring so long as the ending is a surprise and strong. For me, without a terrific ending, any book is a waste of my time. So it is with this in mind, that I Felt compelled to warn future readers who feel like I do, that this book might leave you scratching your head when all is said and done. For the record, I have enjoyed many James Patterson books. For a while, this one reminded me of the much better Book “Cell” by Stephen King. That is, until it fell apart completely 2/3 of the way through. By the way, What happened to Zeke the dog? Also: In an early part of the story, the Roman Catholic cardinal Of New York City appears {SPOILER ALERT} on Air Force One with the president leading the reader to believe we might be heading into “The Exorcist” Territory but after this character is introduced we never hear from him again! Did the authors forget about him?

AUGUST 2021 : 3 STARS A mysterious explosion kills thousands in the Pacific Northwest and only two young girls survive. 16 Year old Tennant and 8 year old Sophie are checking rabbit traps when they feel a vibration that builds in intensity. Their dad drops them into a storm cellar. The sound only gets worse. I'll start by saying I LOVE JD Barker. His 4MK Thriller 3-book series were all 5 star reads for me (The Fourth Monkey, the Fifth to Die and the Sixth Wicked Child). His newest standalone book, The Caller's Games ('21) was also a 5-star read. His first collaboration with James Patterson, The Coast-to-Coast Murders was a 4 star read and I'm hoping for a sequel in this series. This book starts as a "slow burn"; just enough intrigue to be eerie and tense at the same time. I think the book went on about 100 pages too long. It was very repetitive. Overall it felt like a sci-fi plot which I personally don't like. Well done writing but if there's a book 2, I will not be reading. I gave this book a generous 3 Stars.

This book was so weird, and a little bit scary. Could something like this be developed. DARPA does exist! I pray they don't take on things like this. Think about this vivid pandemic, something went wrong with those experiments! Enough said.

I was pulled along, and couldn't put this book down! There were unexpected twists and turns in the plot. Great read!

As good as all the other doomsday novels put together. Smart, unforgettable, and in many ways believable. Just set aside 2 full days beforehand ad you won't want to put it down.
