The Santa Suit: A Novel

From Mary Kay Andrews, the New York Times bestselling author of Hello, Summer, comes a novella celebrating the magic of Christmas and second chances in The Santa Suit.

When newly-divorced Ivy Perkins buys an old farmhouse sight unseen, she is definitely looking for a change in her life. The Four Roses, as the farmhouse is called, is a labor of love―but Ivy didn't bargain on just how much labor. The previous family left so much furniture and so much junk, that it's a full-time job sorting through all of it.

At the top of a closet, Ivy finds an old Santa suit―beautifully made and decades old. In the pocket of a suit she finds a note written in a childish hand: it's from a little girl who has one Christmas wish, and that is for her father to return home from the war. This discovery sets Ivy off on a mission. Who wrote the note? Did the man ever come home? What mysteries did the Rose family hold?

Ivy's quest brings her into the community, at a time when all she wanted to do was be left alone and nurse her wounds. But the magic of Christmas makes miracles happen, and Ivy just might find more than she ever thought possible: a welcoming town, a family reunited, a mystery solved, and a second chance at love.

I kept waiting for a disaster to burn away all the good feelings building in this lovely Christmas fairytale but that never happened! Oh bad things kept dropping in but there was never a moment that you felt that a problem was going to upend the apple barrel. Instead every obstacle became an opportunity for more good stuff. What a great fun happy holiday read!

Mary Kay Andrews said in her Acknowledgment that she wrote this book as a gift to her readers. She definitely accomplished that mission and more! The Santa Suit will make you wish it was already Christmas. In her usual style, Mary Kay Andrews makes you fall in love, and live in her stories. The old white farmhouse that Ivy buys and moves into is the type of place that takes you back to better and simpler times. Makes you wish and hope that there are still towns and places like Tarburton that still exist. I literally wanted to move into her story. Thank you Mary Kay for reminding us how special Christmas can be and that there are special places and people all around us. All we have to do is take the time to look. There are not enough words to describe how wonderful this book made me feel. This is a definite MUST read every year for Christmas. I know it will be for me!

This is Mary Kay Andrews first holiday novel! I could see this book being made into a Hallmark movie! After Ivy’s divorce, she decides to move from big city to small town life, in order to start over in a place where no one knows her. Ivy buys a farmhouse online and unseen, so when she shows up, it’s in more disrepair than advertised and it has not been cleaned out. In the process of cleaning it out, she finds a trunk that has a Santa suit and old children’s letter’s addressed to Santa. Will she uncover the mystery surrounding it? Will she be able to adjust to small town life? As the story unfolds, this heartwarming book will keep you entertained by all of Ivy’s misfortunes turned around by the help of the new community where she is supported and loved. I loved how Mary Kay Andrews added in the element of connecting the past to present! Also including a mystery, but this time it’s surrounding a Santa suit instead of a murder! This holiday book checks all the boxes for a good holiday read!

Delightful new release from Mary Kay Andrews showing displaying the Magic of Christmas! Newly divorced Ivy moves into a run down fixer upper farmhouse. After a series of mishaps, she finds the blessing in “inheriting” all the leftovers in the home as well - furniture, appliances, clothing, tools, etc. and even some personal items such as family photo albums. While cleaning out the top of a closet, she finds a vintage Santa Suit still in remarkable condition! As she is lifting it out of the box, she discovers a child’s Christmas Wish that was stuffed in the pocket. Ivy is touched by the simple request and decides to try and find out the rest of the story behind the Wish. When Ivy moved to town, she knew no one. She wasn’t even interested in making friends. As she involves herself with solving the mystery of the Christmas Wish, she meets new friends and in doing so, reconnects old friends and a family who have lost contact. As the town enjoys its Christmas festival, Ivy has a few secrets of her own planned to bring smiles to her new friends’ faces. Ivy realizes, because of the Magic of Christmas, her new life is turning out far better than she could have ever imagined! She has new romance in her life, too!
