The Summer Getaway: A Novel

I read this book from beginning to end in one day. I kept telling myself to save some for tomorrow, but, I needed to read it all. I love the well written characters, the story, the dialogue, and Lillian most of all. Thank you for a great read!

I love romance novels. I love Susan Mallery books. She writes some of the best romance. We love romance because we love happy endings. And the happy ending is even better when it’s been hard earned. In The Summer Getaway, Robyn is in need of a getaway. Daughter is going bridezilla, teenage son has moved out temporarily and current boyfriend is a ( not nice word)! So she runs away from life to her safe and happy place with her great aunt. Things are lovely and then one by one the crazies in her life start showing up. Oh my goodness. It’s a fun story, that most of us can relate to in some way or another. I laughed, I shed some tears, I got a little annoyed and then I breathed a happy sigh! I did not want this book to end. Read it today! And if you haven’t yet, you’ll want to be reading all of Susan Mallery’s books!

In between reading books by Susan Mallery I forget what I love about her books. In this one I smiled a lot, belly laughed several times, cried both from laughing and sadness and didn’t put the book down until I hit the last page and oh what a bunch of mixed up people in this family. Loved this book and hated to see it end. Kudos Ms Mallery

Go to hardware store, buy a gallon of paint and a paintbrush, go home, open paint, dip brush, swipe paint onto wall and stare at it and watch it dry...this would be more interesting and exciting than this book. This book is so slow and so not interesting. The characters are pretty much non-dimensional, their characterization is basically boring and self centered and the writing is mundane. If you feel you must read this book, try to get it from the library and save your money. I very highly DO NOT recommend this book!!!

The Summer Getaway is such a heartwarming read. You have Robyn who is the glue to her family to the point even her ex-husband goes to her for advice. Austin is the youngest of Robyn's two children. He is the one coasting through life at 18 and still looking for his purpose. He sees everything and will put a smile on your face with some of the advice he gives out. Harlow is the oldest of Robyn's children. She is the most dramatic and has this bratty way about her. She has a lot of growing to do and you may not care for her at first but just wait she is full of surprises. Robyn takes a much-needed break to reconnect with her aunt and help go through all the priceless treasures she has collected over the years. This is Robyn finally giving herself a chance to focus on herself past being a mother and an ex-wife and going for what she wants. Mason is that piece of the puzzle that Robyn never realized was missing. He is amazing and you are going to fall hard for this ex-military guy. Robyn and Mason have amazing chemistry and I love how supportive he is of her. Mason will steal your heart as he bonds with Austin and Harlow. This is a summer journey for all that will warm your heart so much as everyone grows and finds what really matters to them. This is a book on healing, family and love that keeps you glued to the pages. I loved every moment of this one and could not get enough of Robyn and her family. There are so many little giggle moments that will keep it a lighter read when it could get heavy. You need to read this one.
