The Trial of the Century
A gripping and comprehensive history of the iconic attorney Clarence Darrow and the famous Scopes Monkey Trial, from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Russia Hoax and the "superb" (Sean Hannity) Witch Hunt.
Nearly a century ago, famed liberal attorney Clarence Darrow defended schoolteacher John Scopes in a blockbuster legal proceeding that brought the attention of the entire country to the small town of Dayton, Tennessee. Darrow's seminal defense of freedom of speech helped form the legal bedrock on which our civil liberties depend today. Expertly researched, eye-opening, and stirring, The Trial of the Century calls upon our past to unite Americans in the defense of the free exchange of ideas, especially in this divided time.

This book was a big disappointment. I have read over 30 books about the Scopes Trial and this was, by far, one of the worst. I am (now was) a big fan of Gregg Jarrett and never expected this. One example. The textbook at issuein the Scopes trial was Hunter’s Civic Biology which is one of the most racist books of the last century. A few gems: “Although anatomically there is a greater difference between the lowest type of monkey and the highest type of ape than there is between the highest type of ape and the lowest savage, yet there is an immense mental gap between monkey and man.” (p. 195). “At the present time there exists upon the earth five races or varieties of man, each very different from the other in instincts, social customs, and, to an extent, in structure. These are the Ethiopian or negro type, originating in Africa; … and finally, the highest type of all, the Caucasians, represented by the civilized white inhabitants of Europe and America.” Hunter was very clear about what race was the superior race and which one was the inferior race, rejecting the Bible's clear teaching that there is only one race, the human race, all of which were descended from our first parents Adam and Eve. Jarrett concluded that evolution and creation compliment each other. The human body was created by evolution from our common ancestor by means of mutations. What God had to do with the creation, Jarrett never stated. He needs to read Jerry Coyne’s excellent book “Faith Versus Fact: Why Science and Religion Are Incompatible” available on Amazon, Coyne, a New York Times bestselling author of Why Evolution is True, explains why any attempt to make religion compatible with science is doomed to fail.

As a history buff, I thought I knew most of the key details about the famous Scopes Monkey Trial. But thanks to this amazingly-detailed book, I discovered so much more. The writing is easy to follow, and the storytelling is a joy to read. I hope this writing collaboration with the authors produces more books on more historical topics.

A tribute to Darrow, the book tells the story of Tennessee's effort to restrict scientific inquiry and enforce orthodox Christian beliefs or fundamentalist. In reading the book.the reader can easily relate to our own times when State legislators are enacting laws that seek to enforce a certain dogma an they hovel to an enlighten society. William Jennings Bryan is the model for many of today's politicians. Bryan was humiliated Let us hope his successors are similiar humilated
