Their Amish Secret: An Uplifting Inspirational Romance (Amish Country Matches, 2)

Their Amish Secret by Patricia Johns is a sweet story. I thought it was well-written with realistic, developed characters. I enjoyed getting to know Claire Glick, Joel Beiler, and young Aaron. I like the unique premise of this story. I liked that the main character was a basket weaver. It takes skill, patience, and practice to make an attractive and useful basket. Claire is giving a basket weaving lesson to Gloria and Ted Wassel when Joel Beiler arrives. Claire has not seen Joel in five years. Claire and Joel let their passion lead them astray. Claire gave birth to a son, Aaron. Joel had promised to return when he departed, but this is the first time she has seen or heard from him since his departure. She is hoping that living in Redemption will give them (Claire and Aaron) a fresh start. Soon after Joel arrives, a severe storm settles into the area. A downed tree over the only road in and out makes it impossible for anyone to leave. It is soon apparent that the feelings between Claire and Joel have not changed. However, Claire no longer trusts Joel to keep his word. I thought Gloria and Ted gave Claire and Joel good advice. Aaron was a sweet and busy boy. He loved the dog that had wandered onto the property. As Aaron learns, doing the right thing is hard sometimes. While Their Amish Secret is the second book in the Amish Country Matches series, it can be read as a standalone. I was glad that we get to catch up with Naomi and Mose. I am looking forward to Sarai’s story (Claire’s best friend) in The Amish Marriage Arrangement. I appreciated the epilogue that nicely wrapped up the story. One of my favorite lines from Their Amish Secret is, “Because with just a teaspoon of blessing and two hearts determined to do right, she knew they’d be just fine.” I like how the line relates back to the teaspoon of sugar Claire would give Aaron when he had an injury. There are sweet moments in this charming story as well as some amusing ones. There are also good life lessons. The ending left me smiling. Their Amish Secrets is a special story with beautiful baskets, a severe storm, a tumbled tree, a caring couple, lost trust, a found dog, and a giving Gott. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book. This was Claire’s special skill—creating useful, beautiful baskets. She opened the door and gave a polite smile to the man standing on her step. A hitched buggy stood with the horse under the stable shelter behind him, and he was already drenched from the downpour. He was Amish—tall, lean, and with one arm looking noticeably thinner than the other. For a moment, she didn’t know who he was, and she was about to step back, ushering him inside out of the rain. Their Amish Secret by Patricia Johns is book #2 in The Amish Country Matches series. Claire Glick runs a small amish b&b. She's a single mother trying to raise her son the best she can. During a powerful rainstorm, the last person she expected to see is Joel Beiler. The man who promised to return to her 5 long years ago. Joel has been searching for Claire & his son since he found out about him. Though he has been gone so long, he wants to do right for his son. If that means just giving Claire financial help then so be it. He knows he lost his chance long ago when he was a different man. Forced to spend a few days at the amish b&b along with an older Englisch while they wait out the storms, Claire and him start to realize they might not be over each other. Will he be the piece of the puzzle that Claire & Aaron have been missing all this time? Only Gott will know if they get the 2nd chance to be a family. I simply adored this book! I read it in 1 day. I couldn't put it down. It was so good! It was different & I loved that about it. I fell in love with Claire and Joel. I also fell in love with the Englisch couple who had to stay with them. Both couples complemented each other with their experiences. Plus, the story has a rambunctious dog named Goliath (Ollie) who I just adored. I love dogs! I can't wait to go back and read book #1 and of course, I'm so excited for the next book in this series. We also get an epilogue. Yay! I had all the feels with this one. I really just love their story. I know you'll be ugly crying like I was, but in the end all that ugly crying is so worth it. I promise! If you are looking for a sweet romance book about the Amish then I hope you consider this one. I was given a copy of this book, but all opinions are my very own.
