I think the reason I liked this story so much (other than I love the author!) was because both main characters were haunted by the past AND Daniella - the heroine - isn't sure she wants to continue in law enforcement. It's a struggle throughout the book and I found that refreshing because usually books about law enforcement people are those who are super dedicated for life! I loved the "questioning" of Daniella! However, she was very good at her job! She was never "maternal", but her undercover assignment means she has to be a nanny and at first, she is very uncomfortable with it, but learns on the fly. The hero, Sam, was very hung up on his dead wife and had to push through that to move on - even with his young son! I loved Oliver, the young boy. He was delightful! Sam can't figure out why someone would want to be causing problems at his lodge. What do they want? I enjoyed the vivid descriptions of the area where the lodge was located. It added a lot to the story and was a living part of it! A very good story! I received this book from the author but wasn't obligated to review. These opinions are mine.

Playing nanny is not at all appealing to the tough, strong-willed cop, but she accepts her mission. As soon as she ferrets out the culprit and brings him to justice, she can move on. But Daniella finds that she really doesn’t want to move on. Her softer, tender side emerges, and she soon falls in love with the little boy—and very possibly his widowed father as well. But she has to solve this case without endangering the man or the child before she can explore new options. Undercover Assignment by Dana Mentink is the fourth book in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit Series, but it can certainly be enjoyed as a stand-alone. I loved the New Mexico setting and the vivid descriptions of Cliffside Lodge and the surrounding area. Widower Sam Kavanaugh is a strong, capable, and caring man, who is very easy to fall in love with. Little Oliver is adorable. But I really admired Daniella Vargas. She came from rough beginnings and worked hard to turn her life around. She became a woman of faith and carved out a successful career for herself. I enjoyed her blend of toughness and tenderness and tracking her growth as the story unfolded. Dana Mentink has a unique way of blending romance, suspense, and faith in all of her novels. Undercover Assignment is no exception. Readers will be captivated from the very first page and remain spellbound until the end. The book earns five stars—easily!!

I really enjoyed this story, it was a bit different from the other stories in this series but it was great...

Dana Mentink's addition to the Rocky Mountain K-9 series keeps you guessing. Plenty of action and heartwarming moments as the characters struggle to deal with their past and the present danger. Can't wait to read the rest of this series!
